Thoughts on crash/article in Soaring? by
MS
Does anybody have anything to say about the accident described in
Soaring magazine concerning a pilot who could not land to a stop on a
6,000 foot paved runway or the parallel dirt runway to the South?
I know this sounds very judgemental and I don't ordinarily make
negative comments about an...

The Decline of Soaring Awards by
John Foster
I read the recent article in Soaring and it has got me fired up. I have been a member of a small club in Washington State for the last 2 years, learning to fly. The club has a 2-33 and a Lark and a Pawnee. That's it. Badge flying has not been an emphasis, even though one qualifies for at...

The 11 best things at the 2015 15m/Std Class Nationals at Harris Hill by
XC
The 11 best things at the 2015 15m/Std Class Nationals
1. The weather. We flew 7 out of 10 days in Elmira. We could have possible even squeaked in another but the CD wisely called a rest day. One of the practice days was fantastic soaring. Thanks to God, Alleluia.
2. FLARM used in the stealth...

When is too many at a glider meet by
2G
I recently learned that Bruno has increased the number of gliders for the Nephi, UT event to 80. That's right, eight zero. IMHO, that is too many, even if FLARM is mandated. There will be pilots there from virtually zero cross country time to seasoned racers. They may be lulled into a false sense...

Best HD Video Camera for Flight Videos by
KiloKilo[_2_]
I'm getting interested in taking some hd videos on XC missions ... is the GoPro Hero 3 considered the best camera for this type of project.
I've also been fooling with a new Video Editor called Power Director ... great app... much better then then older software I had before.
I re-reprocessed a...

Car/Truck to pull glider trailer by
[email protected]
Hi All,
I am new to this group and last fall added a glider rating to my ASEL certificate.
I am planning to replace my car this summer and in anticipation of purchasing a glider someday, I would like to purchase a vehicle that would do a good job towing a glider. I also want it to get the best...

BRS for emergencies by
Bryan[_4_]
The previous posts under "Stay in, or get out?" raises questions about the
current state of ballistic recovery systems. As paraplegic, I have a
personal interest in BRS because thoughts of my successfully exiting an out
of control sailplane with a parachute, and then landing without the use of...

Class A airspace by
flying_monkey
OK, I'm puzzled. Maybe you folks can help me understand this. I
looked up the definition of Class A airspace, which is "from 18,000
feet MSL to and including FL600" with few exceptions that don't apply
to the area I'm looking at. I've seen more than one flight posted on
OLC which have a high...

Just pull the little red handle! by
JJ Sinclair
I lost my best friend in a mid-air last November, a Cirrus hit a tow
plane in Colorado, we had a mid-air at Parowan and now the mid-air in
Uvalde!
I'm going ballistic as in Ballistic recovery system (BRS). At my age
there's no way I'm getting out of my ship unless it's straight and
level and...
