travel time to gliding site / club? by
Nigel Rotherham
Hi everyone :-) GR8 to have service 'back'!
Question for any / all interested: What is your travel time / distance
(round trip?) from home to gliding / soaring club - site? Not that will
make any difference to actual journey I need to take but knowing what
fellow enthusiast 'endure' to enjoy...

Blanik L-33 Solo by
Walt Connelly
Anyone wish to weigh in on the L-33 solo? I am in the market for a single seater. Metal is preferred because you can tie it down outside without the problems associated with glass. 1-34's are hard to find, not a lot of metal ships on the market these days it seems.
Can anyone speak to the...

ELT EPIRB by
[email protected]
I stumbled across this ACE AquaFix 406 ELT EPIRB while looking for a
transponder:
http://www.anchorexpress.com/acr-aquafix-406-epirb.html
It contains a GPS that transmits your location in an emergency. ACR
also has a $75 rebate for participating dealers (and they DO have to be
participating),...

PowerFLARM Range Issues - Part Two with info from todays flights by
Mark
I had a chance to load a new config file and was able to fly today.
There was no "flarm range" in my original config file. With the file I used today the "flarm range" config was set to maximum with the statement below. I had several flarm detections that occured around 4 miles. This is between...

Private airport or small field for landout? by
Charles Ethridge
Hi all.
I'm a former cfi-i/mei and commercial glider pilot, but I've never gone cross-country in my PW-5 glider. Training up for it though. A question:
If you are in an area where the fields are small, but there are several private airfields around, which should be your priority?
Seems to me...

52/1 Performance in a 15M ship at half the weight. by
SF
I wrote the following article and submitted it to Soaring for
publication because it was something I was interested in and I thought
others would be too. It was rejected because the subject matter
wasn't suitable for soaring. Greg Cole is doing something
extraordinary at Windward Performance and...

New vs. Used by
[email protected]
I just received an email with the monthly news from DG. The 2
paragraphs that struck me most is the explanation of the cost of a
new glider and cost of replacement parts. The high cost of a new
sailplanes and the delays in production was blamed on the war between
Airbus and Boeing. OK, lets say...

Attention Phoebus B1 Owners... by
DMy
I would like to start a thread to determine just how many (or how few)
Phoebus B1 owners there are in the US.
Being a new Phoebus pilot myself, I am interested in comparing
thoughts, and exchanging ideas about this unique ship that is really
well constructed, and ahead of it's time being that it...

Super Cub towplane performance by
Marc Arsenault
Well, we finally discovered that the propeller was totally worn out. We took
the prop to our local Sensenich dealer-repairshop.
The very helpful people of BL Aviation took no more than 15 minutes on the
prop stand to measure out the defective "windmill". Actually, the
measurement were quite...

IGC File / Flight-track Analysis by
noel.wade
Hi All,
I'm working on a project that I can't talk about much, but I was
hoping to prevail upon some experts here. I need to analyze some IGC
files in my project, and try to use the data to determine the behavior
of the glider.
As I understand it, the bulk of the IGC file is just a series of...

Libelle Camelbak stowage by
Martin Gregorie
A long while back somebody (Ian Molesworth?) mentioned "lashing a
Camelbak under the beam supporting the stick" in a Standard Libelle.
With the season visible on the horizon I'm wondering how he did that.
There's obviously sufficient space available under the beam and little
chance of fouling...

What gliders do you hate? by
[email protected]
In the spirit of fun, what gliders (makes or specific ones) do you hate, distrust, or are just plain tired of. Have you given so many rides in one model that you never want to see it again? Is there a plane that, despite treating it right, just seemed to want to hurt you? Or is there one out there...

Robert Mudd has stolen items by

Robert Mudd took two aluminum panels from our workshop to build a trailer
for his apis. In return me promised to replace those with two 12 foot
sections of similar material. I reluctantly agreed to this trade but Robert
has never given us those panels. I reminded him just before he left for...

Is anyone still interested in CuSoft "Polar Explorer" program for PC? by
Branko Stojkovic
Hello,
Sme 10 years ago I wrote a program for DOS named "Polar Explorer" - designed
for analyzing both theoretical and practical aspects of glider performance
in any conditions. The program was advertised in the Soaring magazine for a
couple of years by CuSoft Research Inc., and some 30 odd copies...
