Best Path to Race by
Jeff Morgan
After a 12 year soaring hiatus to advance my airline career, I am back in. I rejoined my old club and got a flight review, and am happy to report the passion is still there.
However, I am at a crossroads, much like before. Our club is all metal ships. Between that and the club time limit per...

Is a Blanik L-33 rugged enough for a club? by
jeff rothman
Our club is seriously considering buying a Blanik L-33 but I have heard a
few reports that the fuselage can be easily damged if a tail first landing
is made. I would appreciate it very much if clubs that own an L-33 could
give me guidance.
Is a Blanik L-33 rugged enough for club use?

Blanik L-33 for a club by
jeff rothman
We are evaluating gliders that our club might purchase. The L-33 looks
promising. What are the pros and cons of this glider? I know it performs
about as well as other club class gliders such as the Junior, PW5, and 1-34.
I have heard that the L-33 is prone to tail wheel damage. Any...

First Glider by
Jeff Runciman
Thanks for all of the advise. I may have to get a
glider in between 30 and 35 ld. I am concerned about
getting in deeper than I should and not having fun.
It is possible that I should get a club class glider
due to my hang gliding experience (tighter turn radius?).
A PW5 or Russia may be an...

Mechanical Vario by
Jeff Runciman
This question was posted earlier but I was hoping for
a few more responses.
Do I put a mechanical vario or do I save space on the
panel.
Would love to hear what people have in their panel.

Jantar 48-2 vs Pik20d by
Jeff Runciman
Hi guys,
It has been a while since I have posted here. I have
finally narrowed my search to 2 gliders. I am aware
of the following on each glider:
Jantar - Visibility during tow, and tight cockpit (I
am 5'10' 148 lbs so I fit ok).
Pik 20D - Thick wing mold, parts support, and flaps.

Maybe back to the LS4 by
Jeff Runciman
Hi guys,
Thanks again for all of the advise over the last few
months. I am now down to the Cirrus, Jantar, and again
the LS4. The only concern about the LS4 maybe the
condition of the gel coat. The Cirrus has a bit of
gel coat cracking, the Jantar has no problems with
the surface (poly paint)....

Cirrus vs ASW by
Jeff Runciman
Thanks for all of the advise. I dont think I can afford
a B or C and I have made 2 minor errors in preflight
in all of my hours. Any suggestions on a 25k and under
sailplane would be appreciated.

ASW20A and Cirrus by
Jeff Runciman
Hi guys,
After spending some time in Phoenix on a Grob 103,
I have started looking for my first glass glider. I
am currently looking at an ASW20A and a Standard Cirrus.
I know they are quite different. I guess my concerns
are the full flying tail on the Cirrus and the flaps
on the ASW. Any...

L33 Solo by
Jeff Runciman
Hi Fellow Pilots,
My name is Jeff Runciman and I am a new sailplane pilot.
I probably have a couple of more hours left before
I get my licence. I currently have 135 hours powered,
35 hours ultralite, and about 450 hours of hang gliding
time. I am current in all except the ultralight. I
am looking...

First Glider LS4 by
Jeff Runciman
Thank you again for your advise. Any more thoughts
on the LS4? Any concerns with the age? What should
I pay for one? And are there any flying groups for
the LS4? Thank you again and I hope I can contribute
to the group as I go along.

First Glider by
Jeff Runciman
Hi guys,
Thank you so much for your insights and advise. There
is a local pilot that has an LS4, a little bit of crazing
of the fiberglass. He hasn't flown in about 10 years.
I am also looking at a brand new 15 meter SZD51-1 Junior.
I know they are not quite in the same class but I
am a little...

GPS BlueTooth w datalogger (Earthmate Blue-Logger by DeLorme) by
Jeffrey Banks
Hi all,
Has anyone found the data logging feature on this small BlueTooth GPS
receiver useful as a stand alone logger?
The file would have to be converted to IGC from what ever file the BT
GPS uses.
And can that converted file be validated for OLC USA national
submissions?
This is interesting to...

Towing w LSA (Light Sport Aircraft) by
Jeffrey Banks
Towing w LSA (FAA defined Light Sport Aircraft)?
Is anyone doing this?
Without a horsepower limit for Light Sport Aircraft it seems that a
small airframe and a big engine might be an ideal towplane.
The GW limit of 1320 lbs (599kg) and max cruise speed of 120knots do
not seem restrictive for...
