Singing Wings by Neil Allison
I noticed this today: http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn7867 "In wind tunnel tests, Salmon stuck sections of plastic piezo-electric film to wing segments. This film vibrates when an electrical signal is applied, producing sound. Tests using a barely audible sinusoidal tone of about 400...

Using European Oxygen Bottle in DG-1000? Where to buy? by Jeremy Zawodny
I've been reading the messages about the DG-400 oxygen system with some interest. In the DG-1000 that I often fly, we have a US oxygen bottle, the AL-647 listed on the Mountain High site: http://www.mhoxygen.com/index.phtml?nav_id=28&product_id=359 The DG-1000 has a factory made oxygen cut out...

Marfa Soaring article, photos, maps, historic articles by chris
September's Soaring includes the Marfa Report 2004 article that we wrote. There were more photos than could be included in the magazine, and we also came across the historic articles that detail the big races held there years ago. Feel free to download the PDFs - these make good reading. 1969...

I notice that the collection of Dick Johnson Test Flight Evaluations that used to be available to all on the SSA website has vanished. I've tried a Google search but can't find the collection. Can anybody tell me what happened and where I might be able to find online copies of the test...

u.r.a.s question by Martin Gregorie
Are there any news servers carrying uk.rec.aviation.soaring or does it just exist within glider.pilot.net? I can't find it on the Demon news server. I much prefer using a proper newsreader to read news groups. -- martin@ | Martin Gregorie gregorie. | Essex, UK org |

finally resolved Kern County tax problem by ken ward
As some of you may recall, although my glider has been at Minden for years (and I pay taxes there), a few months ago I got a tax bill from Kern County (KC). The supposed aircraft location was the Cal City airport. After a few phone calls I determined that the bill was based on a casual...

1st Grand Prix reports on the web by [email protected]
Hello all, Just a note to let you know that I am posting informal reports about flying in St. Auban, France at the World Sailplane Grand Prix at www.susanmcallister.blogspot.com instead of the usual U.S. Team website. Tim and I arrived Friday night. Bruce Taylor of Australia is already here, and...

[US] Hope some are watching this by Frank Whiteley
http://www.gazette.net/200533/frederick/news/290151-1.html The last part about the matching funds is troubling. Would seem like someone forgot to finalize things years ago. M-ASA is having an interesting run at it. Frank Whiteley

Source for LS-6 tail skid/wheel by [email protected]
Hi all, Does anyone know of a source for a glue on tail skid and wheel for the LS-6? I ripped mine off this weekend by just catching the tailwheel on the edge of the apron and ruined it. Maybe some one has one getting dust in there garage?? Sincerely, Jerz

Cambridge 302 Indicated Airspeed by Ross Biggar
I fly a Ventus CT with a Cambridge 302 and an Ipaq using Winpilot. Flying yesterday I checked the IAS shown on the 302, I noticed that it is giving totally different readings to the mechanical ASI. eg at 50kts on the mechanical, the 302 showed 40kts at 70kts the 302 showed 63 kts. I did not check...

Sailplane polar comparison software by Mr David Donald
Some years ago, I was able to download an excel spreadsheet that compared two gliders (via drop down boxes). It displayed their polars in different colours against each other. It also showed their sink rates at speed. My computer has crashed and I'm trying to find a copy. Anyone got one out...

Winpilot Polar Data for LS8-18 by Jürgen Becker
Hi everybody, I wonder I can get the polar data of my LS8-18 in the 18 meter configuration - no problem with the 15 meter version so far - to put it in the Winpilot polar file. I guess there is a possibility to figure that out for oneself, but I hope there is someone out there who already has...

Blogs about soaring and aviation by Roger Worden
Blogs (web logs) are a rather new type of web site where the author periodically adds new articles about current events or simply his thoughts about a subject. As with RAS and other forums, helpful comments and additions are welcomed. Unlike on RAS, rants are not so welcome. :-) I have found just...

OLC edit by Jack
Is it possible to correct an OLC entry which shows the wrong date for a flight? I made two flights, one on 8-5 and the other on 8-6. Both show up on the OLC site as being made on the 6th, and during overlapping time periods. The begin- and end-time is correct for each, but though it's impossible...
