Flying during a Solar Eclipse by
AS
Ok - here is a question for the FAR experts:
On August 21, there will be a total solar eclipse occurring - among other places - over South Carolina. The duration of the total eclipse is around 2min 35 seconds.
Is this considered night time? Can I fly a glider under VFR-daytime rules during this...

IMI Self-Rigger Wheels by
AS
Hi all,
I have a set of two (2) unused, brand new pneumatic wheels for an IMI self-rigger for sale. They are the size 4.00 - 4 and fit the standard IMI axle. If your self-rigger needs a little extra height, this is the easiest way of accomplishing that. I had the opposite issue and needed less...

Virgin Galactic by
AS
Virgin Galactic successfully completed another test flight. Out of curiosity, I looked up the reg.-number N202VG of the space plane. Turns out that it is registered as an Experimental Glider - without an engine! So that massive rocket sticking out the back is not an engine? Hmmm... the...

Question for the Moriarty, NM locals by
AS
Question for the Moriarty, NM locals:
Is there a parachute rigger available at the field or in the area who is familiar with chutes used in gliders, i.e. who can repack a chute 'lump-free'?

Solvent for Gap-Seal tape prep by
AS
Hi y'all,
I have to replace the cloth tape gap seal after loosing the one on the rudder in flight. I removed the adhesive residue with GooOff, which worked really well and washed the area with denatured alcohol. The new tape still won't stick very strong. The glider is metal with PU-paint.
What...

Radio acting up by

I have a question for all the electronic wizards out there. My radio is only giving a carrier signal but no modulation. I have the following set-up:
Dittel FSG71M
Dittel speaker box F10061 with two DIN connectors for two microphones (only one used)
Dynamic goose neck microphone F10039
I tried both...

ILEC SN10B for sale by
[email protected]
Greetings all,
I just purchased a used aircraft with an SN10 and a Clearnav in it. I decided to go with the Clearnav, so I'm selling the SN10. They list for 2200 Euros on the German website - I'm happy to offer a bargain so I'll take the first offer of $1000, which I think is a helluva deal.
It...

Sailplane equipment: transponder, transciver 8.33 kHz. by
asdowski
Hi.
I'm searching for the cheapest SSR transponder and transciver with
8.33 channel separation that could be mounted on a sailplane. I

US Team Camp Calendar Warning by

Folks,
I recently committed to talk about some European racing techniques highlighted in my World's report at a team camp. The guidelines for when to search for thermals and when to park and exploit others doing the searching are interesting.
The camp will likely be run alongside the Cordele cross...

Glider preparation for a competition by
[email protected]
I'm flying in my first gliding competition this year. I've flown a reasonable number of XC tasks over the last couple of years and thought it would be fun to enter a small local competition.
My glider is in pretty good condition and I'll be polishing it before the competition, but what other tips...

Thermalling Primary Gliders by
[email protected]
I'm interested to know if primary gliders were capable of soaring flights or if they only flew short hops.
The SG 38, for example, has a sink rate of 1.3 m/s so in theory it's possible. I'd be very interested to hear of any stories about soaring one of these gliders.
