Best Overall Motorglider available today? by Nick Kennedy[_3_]
Didn't want to hijack the current FES tread so I thought I'd start a new one. This topic came up over dinner a couple of weeks ago. When you add all the following into a pot and stir, whats the "Best" Say for Western Great Basin flying. I think it may be the Carat, but I don't know much about...

Biden: Two hundred MILLION people have died... by 2G
....and EVERY SINGLE ONE is Trump's fault. Well, at least we have solved global warming. https://nypost.com/2020/09/21/biden-mistakenly-says-millions-have-died-from-covid-19-in-us/ And, NO, this is NOT Biden's first mistake involving numbers, as I have posted in the past.

Refinishing ASW24 by [email protected]
I have been working on the horizontal stab and the two elevators for the past two weeks. I have never seen such difficult gel coat to remove. I am no rookie at gel coat, have done many boats and a bit of glider repair, but this is a beast to remove. It took me six full days to remove the gel coat...

FES underpowered for 18m ship? by Mana
I just had a chat with a fellow pilot whose friend sold his LAK 17b FES because he was disappointed by the ability of the FES to gain altitude. The problem being that when applying sufficient power to gain altitude, the battery would get warm to the point where the controller shuts the motor down....

Pulse Oximetry with new Apple Watch 6 by Dee[_2_]
Today Apple announced their new $400 Series 6 Apple Watch will have the ability to monitor blood O2 saturation levels (in addition to other medical features). Valuable medical info not only for pilots but for an early indication of pulmonary changes such as seen with COVID-19 infection. Not sure...

Any AC-4/5 “Russia” owners out there? by Jim M[_2_]
I’m a new owner looking for some tips and tricks. Here’s a couple of questions for starters: -What breaks first, and how do I fix it before that happens? -Is there an easy way to replace the main wheel/brake with something better? -I have two pitot sources, why? Thanks! Jim

Hello, here is a post of my friend Benjamin from the German gliding forum: "Hello, everybody, about three years ago a friend and I had the chance to develop new ("neo") 15m winglets for the LS8 in cooperation with DG Flugzeugbau. The flight experience with the winglets is quite positive. Now...

CAUTION - Active Scam Attempt on W&W Classifieds by Sean Franke
Scams occur in every corner and attempts at Wings & Wheels classifieds are not exempt. I feel it's important to make you aware of the scam that surfaced yesterday. We received over a dozen calls regarding a person who calls himself Michael Diaz (no doubt not his real name). If you have an active...

Paraglider pilot missing in eastern Nevada by 2G
He flew with two other paragliders last Saturday and hasn't been heard from since: https://www.reviewjournal.com/local/local-nevada/infrared-tech-used-in-hunt-for-paraglider-pilot-missing-in-nevada-2104357/ This is very unforgiving country to be flying over. You can walk for an entire day and not...

Is there a trick for making the life tracker on the SSA website work? I tried to follow the Perry contest but was only able to get it to work on my iPhone but not on my laptop. Only got a blank screen there. I am using Chrome as a browser and Windoze 7 Professional. Uli

Dust cover choices by [email protected]
I am looking for dust covers. My 15 m glider spends all of its off-duty hours in my hangar, but since this is New Mexico (i.e., a desert) it collects dust and I would like to keep it covered, especially over the winter when I do not fly as much. Jaxida and Cloud Dancers offer dust covers, but the...

Hero, Garmin or OTHER? by [email protected]
Reading the dismal (I'm being kind) reviews of the latest Hero Gopro I'm looking at alternatives. Kind of. Has anybody settled on an alternative? So far what I've seen either desaturates color or has reliability issues. (Read=this is NOT an endorsement of Garmin OR GoPro.). Thanks for any...

Felt by Jay Campbell
Many of you use, or could use, felt for lots of things in your trailers (fitments, pads), your dollies, wing stands (maybe). I know that over the years, felt has been a part of every one of my winter's project list. I used to have an industrial supplier "down the street" and got off-cuts from him...

LS6b ballast valve seal by Ben Coleman
Hi all, I am rebuilding my ballast valve at the moment. I have it apart (unfortunately in more bits than I planned but that is another story) and would like to replace the rubber seal / seat that the ball-on-a-stick sits on. Does anyone know what seal it is and/or where to get one? I assume...

Powersonic "Smart Battery" tested by jfitch
It seems like a nice concept and I was recommending others try so I thought I should too. https://www.power-sonic.com/batteries/lithium-bluetooth-series/ I bought the 12120 which is 12.5AH to replace my StarkPower 12AH (which after 6 years use still tests at 11.9 AH). The Powersonic is available...
