Werker SLA batteries? (... better than PowerSonic?) by 2NO
I'm growing weary of my PowerSonic (PoS) batteries crapping out a few minutes after their 1 year warranty expries. Are Werker batteries any better? ... or are they essentially the same? The salesman at Batteries Plus said they pretty much stopped selling PS because they were having quality...

LX7007 speed-to-fly problem, revisited ... by 2NO
I had a pair of seemingly disjoint flight data problems through Saturday and I’m curious whether their absence on Sunday had them connected in some way. My setup: LX7007 Pro IGC (ver 2.01) providing NMEA and LXWP* sentences to an Oudie (SeeYou Mobile, latest version). I use the LX for general task...

Legal rights when landing on private property (USA) by 2NO
There was a discussion about this last year, and I'm sure it comes up regularly, but I'd like to get some feedback from pilots with both legal and practical experience regarding one's rights (if any) upon making an emergency landing on private property in the USA. My aroused curiosity stems from...

SeeYou Mobile 4.3 lost connectivity by 2NO
Since I upgraded SYM to 4.3 on my hx4700 it no longer receives GPS data from my LX7007. I've played with the port settings (comm ports, buad rates) with no success. Has anyone else had this problem? Could be a cable went bad, but I'd like to rule out a software configuration problem ... 2NO

Odd thing in Houston by 303pilot
This isn't soaring related, but I just saw the oddest thing out my office window. My office is on the beltway, 15 miles from downtown. The sky is clear. A large (bigger than a 737) passenger jet escorted by one or more small aircraft circled downtown Houston about 30 minutes ago and departed...

negative flaps--what speeds? by 303pilot
The manual for my 303 Mosquito is silent as to when the use of negative flaps becomes beneficial during cruise. Any pointers as to what speeds are associated with -1 and -2 flap positions? Any data on the LD benefits of negative flaps at higher speeds? I read Dick Johnson's flight eval (Aug '79)...

Gladiators of the Sky DVD by 303SAM
This is the story of the recent Soaring Gran Prix in NZ. It is exceptionally well done and I recommend it to everyone on this list. I think what they've done is right on target for making the excitement and beauty of soaring accessible to a wide audience. The air to air shots are fantastic. I'd...

Tried to get some info via the 'Gladiators' thread w/no luck... Are any efforts underway to get Gladiators broadcast? If so, how can we support those efforts. If not, who has some connections we can leverage?

Catheter question by 303SAM
I've always been a ziplock man myself but the recent thread got me considering catheters. My ship has a fitting for connecting a catheter. The fitting is connected to a tube that ends at the trailing edge of one of the gear doors. The fitting has a rubber O-ring and looks like another fitting on...

Diamond Distance flight plan by 303SAM
I got my Diamond Goal done last year and I'm going for Diamond Distance this year. I'd like comments on one of the routes I'm considering. I understand I can have three turnpoints + start/finish. We have prevailing wind (sea breeze) out of the SE. Good days will see well spaced 3-4 kt thermals...

Tie-down and Taxes by 309
I've moved my glider from it's usual place of "nesting" (a hangar in L.A. County) to a tiedown at Cal City (in Kern County). Anybody else have any advice on dealing with the tax assessor statement that came? I moved it up to the highlands in February of 2006, so technically I think it's a Kern...
