Advice for a New Pilot? by
Ryan Spicer
Hi all,
I've seen a lot of interesting discussion on this group
improving skills and safety, so I thought I'd ask this he I'm
currently training for my private pilot glider ticket, starting from
zero. I have about 12hrs in my logbook over 43 flights, about a third
of which are solo. I did...

Soaring Clubs in Ireland? by
Ryan Spicer
I'm spending a month vacationing in Dublin, Ireland. I was wondering
if anyone here could recommend a relatively close-by glider club. I
don't think I'll be here often enough to justify getting a BGA-
acceptable medical, even though I'm rated in the US, but I'd still
like to take a flight to check...

GlideNavigator II and SoaringWeb Turnpoints? by
Ryan Spicer
Hi all,
I'm trying to help a club member upload updated waypoint (.dat)
files onto his Compaq Aero 1520 for use with GlideNavigator II v3.0.
I'm an IT guy, but pretty new to the world of soaring software. We've
downloaded the .dat file (http://soaringweb.org/TP/ASA/nm_asa10.dat).
It opens...

Sailplane/trailer moving? by
Ryan Wubben
I’ve occasionally seen posts regarding people with an empty leg willing
to
transport glider trailers around various parts of the country.
Anyone with good recommendations on who to use? Bad experiences?
What does it typically cost?
Thanks!

"Cabriolet" open cockpit canopy? by
Ryan Wubben
Is it possible to replace the standard canopy on a Scheibe L-Spatz III (or
any
of that series) with an open cockpit "cabriolet" style canopy? Do plans
exist?
I've seen pictures on a K-6 and K-8 (even a dual one on an ASK-13!), but
I'm
curious what the process is and what paperwork is required?...

Ka-8b by
Ryan Wubben
After a long (12 year) absence, looking to get back into soaring, although
I've
been an active power pilot and have owned a variety of airplanes.
I used to own a Ka-6, but am thinking of a a Ka-8b that is coming up for
sale.
Any thoughts on the Ka-8?
Things to watch out for?
Difficulty rigging?

A&P/IA in PA? by
Ryan Wubben
Curious if there are any recommendations for an A&P/IA who
knows wood and fabric structures and the glue joints of the
Schleicher Ka-6’s in (or near) the State College, PA region (Ridge
Soaring specifically). There is one for sale there that I’d like to
have some one knowledgeable take a...

RF vario interference by
ryanglover1969
I have a little problem that has been discussed here before. Every
time I press my push to talk my vario freaks out. I have a Dittel FSG
2T radio and an LX 1600 vario. We typically fly on 123.5 or 123.3. any
Ideas on how to get rid of the interference?
Any help will be appreciated.

colibri by
ryanglover1969
Hey guys, I have a question about my Colibri. It has stopped recording
flights and when it turns on I get this message, "init memory" And it
says that the internal seal is not valid. I obviously have to get it
re-calibrated. But it has never stopped recording flight when it was
past it's...

Ideal Variometer by
ryanglover1969
I have a few suggestions for the way my vario, an LX1600 should work,
ideally.
I would like it to switch between "STF mode" and "Climbing mode" when
I hit lift or sink. Ideally it should switch to climbing mode when I
hit lift that equals or exceeds my MC setting. Of course there would
still be a...

Not to diminish Fritz Seger's fantastic flight but, I would have
thought this record would have been surpassed on some of the ridges in
the east by now. Is going for this record unappealing to a lot of
pilots?

Best instrument combination by

Looking for some consensus of opinion on what is the best combination
of flight computer, logger and PDA. / soaring software.
Recently sold my glider with LX 1600, Colibri and 3800 series Ipaq
running SeeYou Mobile. I liked the set up ok, but there were some
minor glitches, as I'm sure there are...

Dick Johnson's wing flattening jig? by

Has anyone heard of Dick Johnson's wing flattening jig? I'm interested
in a Discus A and the owner said that this glider has had the wings

he did the work. Anyone have more information about a wing flattening

Interesting gap seal by
ryanglover1969[_2_]
Friend of mine just bought John Seymour's Ventus 2 and it had a canopy
seal that was fixed to the edge of the canopy behind the pilot's
head...It operated like a mylar seal and that's probably the best way
to describe it... but it wasn't mylar. Is anyone familiar with this
set up? Anyone know where...

towing a sailplane trailer / vehicle by

Hello all. I am looking to buy a new vehicle, mainly for work related
reasons. Something like an AWD Subaru Outback would be perfect for
work.
So I'm wondering what you all have to say about towing my sailplane
trailer with a Subaru Outback, which is a 4 cylinder vehicle. That's
the issue I need...

Distance to Goal Flight in Texas by
ryanglover1969[_2_]
In 1980 Kenneth Atreburn set the record for a distance to goal flight
in the 15 meter class in Texas at 532 miles.
And in 1973 Carson Gilmer set the standard class record at 503 miles.
Does anyone know any details of these flights? Interested especially
where they flew from.
Thanks, Ryan

I have a question for all the electronically minded pilots out there.

when the colibri and or the Ipaq isn't connected it doesn't go crazy.
My set up is as follows: LX 1600vario
