Eaglet Spoilerons by
Jeff Dorwart
Have not flown the Eaglet, but it is the same system
as on the Javelin. Control is about the same except
you don't need to use as much rudder (pedal) since
the spoileron creates drag on the down wing that pretty
much counteracts the adverse yaw from the lift differential.I understand the Eaglet...

PEZ gets his last diamond by
John Shelton
It is almost the Vernal Equinox and, as promised, Pez will conclude in time
for you to go outside, dig your trailer out from under the leaves and pine
needles and take a look at what's inside.
Winter is almost over and it's time to go fly, folks.
Keep watching the site. If I can convince enough...

Pilot statistics: SSA vs non-SSA by
DrJack
John Roake, Chairman of the International Gliding Commission's
Membership Committee, has stated (see on-line Gliding Magazine at
http://www.glidingmagazine.com/FeatureArticle.asp?id=400) that based
on newly revised FAA statistics the SSA represents less than 50% of
sailplane pilots in the USA. So...

Nitrous Oxide for towing safety? by
Jason Payne
Just a thought. Wanted to see what you guys thought. I know that FAA
aproval would never happen, but seems like a good idea to me.
You could easily and safely run a 100hp shot of NO2 for the first 10-15
seconds of a takeoff roll in an 0-470 or similar motor, and get to 100 feet
and 65 knots a...

Latest statistics on our numbers by
Stewart Kissel
http://www.glidingmagazine.com/FeatureArticle.asp?id=400
The current issue of Soaring had an interesting article
by Chris Woods about this topic. When attempting to
describe soaring I use the analogy of comparing sailboats
to motorboats, not sure how accurate this is but it
seems to occasionaly...

Flight Logging - Cheap by
Marry Daniel or David Grah
Partially for purist and self righteous reasons, I avoid the use of a flight
computer or GPS while soaring. I like to look at the map and look out the
canopy to figure out where I am and if I am high enough. With this approach
I am free to feel a little snobby that I am not depending on a...

ASW-20 flaps setting VS speed by
AttentionLEcureuil
Hi,
I was reading the Johnson's ASW-20 flight evaluation. He says the -6
degrees flap setting is useless and that 0 degree is better up to
76kts, where the -9 degrees should then be selected.
Johnson also says something about the possible -4 degrees flaps
setting that might be more useful than the...

Advice: Boom Mic or alternative by
Vassilios Mazis
Hello all,
I wonder if anyone can advise on a suitable source (prefferably
europe)and / or specifications for a replacement boom microphone for a
Dittel FSG 50 VHF radio.
The current one is bust and I can replace the mic only, or (ideally)
the whole flexible boom with something more petite and...

said he saw a proposed AD for mass ballast from Schemp-Hirth.
I have not heard of this, and will start googling as
soon as I post to ras.
