Pilot Certificates by Bob Moore
wrote As a matter of minor interest, there's an interesting logic trap in play here. I think it is safe to say all holders of the airline transport rating also hold commercial certificates at least in the US. As I have pointed out before, ATP is NOT a rating, it is a...

Recreation of doomed flight on HISTORY channel by aviation buff
HI all! Did anyone out there in airplane land enjoy last night's documentary of AA11 (first to crash flight in NYC) as much as I did? I'm sure there will be repeats in the near future for those whom missed it. I just wanted to ask those of you serious airline pilots, whom did view the show,...

PPL Services by Nadeem Zahid
I just want to clear some confusion reg. private pilot services. I know that PP cannot charge for any services for compensation or hire other than sharing the fuel cost. Can someone zoom little bit into it? Specifically if someone (non-pilot) wants to rent an airplane (also if he can rent at all?)...

Wurtsboro Airport NY Closed ?? by PA-12
I see a Notam that the main runway has been closed since early December. There was also an article about a developer looking to keep it as an airport but building houses. Anyone have any idea what's going on there? Thanks. Tom

Read all about me! by Bob Gardner
Best-selling mystery author Marcia Muller has written me into "The Ever-running Man" as the manager of the Little River, CA airport. She hadn't forewarned me, so reading my own name was a pleasant surprise. Bob Gardner

Helicopter Oil Rig Crew Shuttle Cost by Really-Old-Fart
A discussion recently came up and I figured that perhaps someone around here might have an answer. Approximately how much does it cost the oil companies to ferry a single helicopter load of crew out to an oil rig that is 100 miles from shore?

Does glide ratio change with altitude? by Andrew Sarangan
On Sep 19, 10:43 am, "Jim Carter" wrote: During a recent discussion about calculating glide ratio, I began to wonder what the effects of pressure altitude were on the glide ratio of an aircraft. Since air is 50% as dense at FL180 as at sea level, would the glide...

Locomotivation will Replace Internal Combustion by Some Other Guy
Howard Eisenhauer wrote: http://www.flixxy.com/besler-steam-airplane.htm Cool! Interesting how easy prop reversal is, which makes sense since it's a steam engine. The Wikipedia page claims that it was capable of STOL operation since the prop could be used for braking on landing.

Recommendations for Palm Pilot E6B equivalents by Mxsmanic
Has anyone used any programs for a Palm Pilot that provide E6B functions? Which ones, and what did you think? I found something called FlightPal on the Net and not much else, but I don't know anything about it. Sporty's has something for the same price but I don't think it's downloadable.

need advice on ground school book by party boy
I have a 1989 copy of From The Ground Up I paid $20 at the time. I saw a updated copy for $50. I don't like the 1989 copy I have, I think it is poorly written and doesn't explain the topics properly. If anyone has the updated version is it the same stuff inside or is it completely re-written and...
