Nextel paint finish for cockpits by
Simon Waddell
I'm having my glider refinished and the workshop is recommending Nextel
paint for the cockpit. This paint has kind of a soft feel to it. I think
it's used in K21 cockpits and, in black, it's sometimes used for the cover
over the instrument panel since it doesn't reflect light.
Does anyone have...

hydraulic disk brake upgrade by
shkdriver
Hello,
Has anyone done a disc brake replacement of an original drum brake?
I have reverse engineered a replacement 400x4 wheel for my SHK-1 which uses a hydraulic disk and caliper, and a beringer stick mounted lever master cylinder all employing dot 4 brake fluid, (EPDM seals throughout)
The...

Display for PowerFLARM brick by
Andy[_1_]
Some time ago potential purchasers of the (US) PowerFLARM brick were
offered the choice of the bundled display or the 57mm panel mount
display. No information on either seemed to be available from US
dealers so it was impossible to make an informed choice.
Butterfly has advised me that no English...

Winch launch speed versus height gain by
Neil
Ok, I could probably arrange with the winch driver to experiment, but is
there any definitive guidance on getting the greatest height off a winch
launch? (eg. Skylaunch).
i.e. if I'm "driven" at the higher end of the speed range acceptable to my
gliders placarding, will I get higher or lower...

New Version of Tasman Variometer Firmware Available by
Paul Remde
Hi,
Tasman has released a new version of the firmware that runs in the V1000
variometer. The new version has a different sink tone than previous
versions. The sink tone now gets lower in pitch with lower sink rates. The
climb tone remains the same as it has always been with increasing pitch...

Trailer paint removal by
Chris Davison
Does anyone have experience of removing flaking paint
from the skin of a metal trailer? About 1/3 of the
paint is coming off...I want to strip all the paint
off and preferably leave the metal skin 'bare'. Is
this just 'buy a big can of paint remover and a large
brush' or is it more complicated? ...

Review: New book on the U2 super motorglider by
kd6veb
Hi Gang
Occasionally one finds a good read on a subject that many of us are
interested in, namely soaring. Well the Government funded in the 50s
the development of a new spy plane - a motorglider - named the U2. The
specifications of this machine included operation up to 80,000 feet at
80% the...

Hauling a trailer by rail or car-carrier truck by
GM
Hi all in US-glider land,
has anyone ever had a glider hauled in its trailer by rail or by truck
using one of these car hauling companies from coast to coast (or close
to it)? If so, I would like to learn about it.
Thanks,
Uli Neumann

USA Glider Experimental Airworthiness Certificate by

Well, now I've done it. I've changed the tail number of my glider, and
I'm in the process of getting a new experimental airworthiness
certificate. My glider currently is certified as: "Experimental:
Exhibition and Air Racing." The DAR (FAA Designated Airworthiness
Representative) says that I am...

SNav / LNav Question by
Dan Pitman
Hi,
Does anyone know the difference between an LNav and
and SNav? I know historically the LNav was positioned
as a 'budget' SNav, but looking at the manuals for
the current versions there doesn't seem to be any appreciable
difference between the two.
If anyone could outline the 'family tree' for...

Ls8 vs SZD--55 by
[email protected]
How do these compare? Not performance wise (no ambition to fly comps and still a beginner at ca 100 hours) though specs seem close for ls8 in 15m config but in all other aspects.
Price difference makes me wonder which way to go...
Has anyone flown, owned both?

Learning to glide / soar in winter by
Oscar
I am located in Sydney / Australia and wonder what the pros/cons are to do a
glider course in our winter instead of our summer. Weather here is generally
sub-tropic and I guess comparable with South Africa or maybe Spain or
Southern USA. Looks like a much nicer season to be out and about than the...

Cessna towplane by

Contact Cessna. There are factory approved drawings
for a Schweizer towhook installation. There is a charge
for the drawings, but once you own them, you can install
the towhook with nothing more than a logbbook entry.
Since it is factory approved additional equipment,
and not a modification, no...
