Soaring Convention: What was new, interesting, best? by
soarski
Well done
Soar Point
The fact that he comes out with his points just once in a while,
makes it very interesting!
BUT.......for us who could not make it to the Convention, could we have
some reports, stories. What gliders were on the floor, Talks, lectures,
items?

Good Digital Water Meter Wanted by
Paul Remde
Hi,
I currently sell a nice mechanical water meter for use when filling the
glider wings. It works great. The only thing it is lacking is the ability
to zero the meter. Therefore, you need to make note of the number before
you start filling and calculate what number you want to arrive at...

looking for advice on lead n follow flights by
Roy Garden
I'm an averagely useless XC pilot living in a visitor intensive place and
get asked to do Lead n Follow flights with some regularity.
I've tried, on quite a few occasions and short of herding cats, I can't
think of anything less likely to succeed.
The main issue is, keeping track of where...

Duo Discus canopy problems by
David Starer
I recently had the alarming experience of the canopy coming nearly fully
open on a Duo Discus shortly after take-off on aerotow. Both my student (who
was flying the glider at the time) and I grabbed the handles when the canopy
was about 45 degrees open and managed to close it. However all efforts...

Tales Of The Bloody Triangle by
[email protected]
I have been around this game for a bit and have made all kind of flights, straight out flights, out and return flights, and the Bloody Triangle. I must say that the most difficult of them all is the declared triangle with minimum leg distances. Without a doubt the triangle is the most challenging...

Schweizer 1-34 Pilot Weight capability by
RN
Our club is considering an SGS 1-34 as an addition to the fleet and is
interested in the max pilot weight capability. It looks like the
handbook numbers are quite high, but we would appreciate any real
world inputs from 1-34 pilots or owners.

Soaring in Canada? by
Steve B
I will be traveling to the Vancouver area. I am looking for locations
in the area that offer sailplane rental services. I am curious if
anybody can recommend a soaring site for the area.
Thanks

ADS-B Compliance by
2G
I confirmed with the FAA recently what others have said here befo after 1/1/2020 glider flight at altitudes 10,000 ft and above AND above 2,500 ft AGL WILL require ADS-B out. The only good news that I got is that the FAA is actively looking at low-cost, low-power GPS sources for the GPS part of...

Pilot weight and gliding by
JohnH
Hello,
I'm just now learning about Gliding and will start instruction soon.
Question: I'm 6ft tall and weigh 232 lbs. Have I weighed myself out of
many sailplane options? I DO plan on losing some more weight, but just
in case I don't, would appreciate some knowledge on this :) The
instructor...

Flat-free glider tail dolly wheel by
JS
Just finished this conversion.
Found a flat-free wheel and tire at the local Tractor Supply Co (tractorsupply dot com). SKU 3553230 "Never Flat Tire, 8 inch". It's rated for 220lb / 100kg and has a 2.50x4 tire. It's soft enough to provide some shock absorption.
But that wheel has 5/8" bearings, and...

Oudie/Flarm alarm from my own ADS-B/Transponder by
Richard Livingston[_2_]
I recently installed a Trig TT22 transponder in our LS6. Today I got to fly it for the first time and I was getting constant conflict alarms on my Oudie about traffic at (for e.g.) my "6 O'Clock and 35ft above me" The only way I could figure out how to silence these alarms was to set my...

Gas Struts for Clamshell Trailer by
[email protected]
I just replaced the gas springs/struts for my trailer with ones from
EasySprings of North America. They were very helpful. If they do not
have what you need on the shelf, they will custom make them to your
specifications. Fortunately I was able to read the label on my old
struts (900N) so with a...
