1,000 mile ridge flight 4-05-07 by
[email protected]
Just got a email from Tom Knauff.........................
Dale Kramer flew a thousand miles yesterday - the only pilot on the
ridge due to snow showers - but apparently used a too-fast sample rate
on his logger, so it probably will not validate his flight.
KS sent me a email as Dale was flying,...

fires at Tahoe by
Matt Herron Jr.
I am thinking of going up to Airsailing this weekend for some XC
paractice. Does anyone have any info on the impact the fires are
having in the area? Visibility, TFRs? (extra thermals???) Friday
looks windy, but the weekend looks OK according to NOAA

Waypoint/turnpoint files by
[email protected]
Is there any rationality to the numbering of waypoints in files?
Looking at some from the Turnpoint Exchange, I can't find any real
order. If there's not a reason for a waypoint to be a specific
number, I can shuffle and renumber at will, right??

Turf Soaring available. by
Charlie Lite
Turf Soaring has finally learned that the State of Arizona will renew
its lease for the next ten years. As many of you know this has been
an issue since Roy put TURF on the market and was hindering most
attempts by prospective purchasers. The lease in now in place.
This site is vital to soaring...

New 5" VGA screen computer by
Eric Greenwell
Has anyone seen the Oqo computer (www.oqo.com) so they know how good the
screen is in sunlight?
It's spendy at $1800, but it's Windows XP computer with a 5" VGA screen,
just about the ideal size for a glider. Physically, it's only slightly
larger than an Ipaq 38xx. Of course, the key feature is...

How much glass in a glider? by
Marian Aldenhövel
Hi,
We talk "glass ship" or "Plastikbomber" and variations to that theme
when talking of composite gliders. While riding my bike home from the
airport yesterday I started to wonder how much of GRP is actually
"glass" and how much "plastic". Or more generally:
What goes into a modern glider in...

Personal locator beacon by
bumper
A few months back, I purchased an ACR PLB with on-board GPS. This is a
portable 406 Mhz unit that can give search and rescue your near exact
position far faster than the old 121.5/243 Mhz ELT's. It also has a unique
identifier that's tied into a database so SAR has your contact info
