DG300 horizontal stab. bolt saftey wire by
[email protected]
The Horizontal Stab. is held in position by a captive bolt that is
prevented from backing out by a spring steel wire that slides through
a slot in that bolt. Mine just broke. Does anyone have experiance with
that little wire and it's replacement?

volkslogger problem by
[email protected]
Sunday my volkslogger locked up twice. The screen goes blank and the
warning tone stays on constantly. After an hour I managed to reach
over my shoulder and disconnect the battery, then plug it back in. It
then powered back up but of course the data is all screwed up. SeeYou
was not very happy...

Does anyone have any experience using a Wilga as a towplane?
Yes, most if not all airclubs in Eastern Europe use Wilga as a towplane. The aircraft was specially built for this purpose. The rear window and the flying atitude...

Updraft Speed Ranges in Different Types of Storms by
IdoMillet
Just wanted to share an interesting article found at:
http://www.stormtrack.org/forum/archive/index.php/t-716.html
Here are some key figures extracted from it:
- non-severe thunderstorm: 15 to 30 MPH (1,200 - 2,500 fpm)
- severe "Multicell cluster" thunderstorms: 60 MPH (5,500 fpm)
- supercell:...

Wilga as a towplane by
[email protected]
The Pacific region Royal Canadian Air Cadets tried out a Wilga 2000MA (IO-540 engined version). It didn't work out all that well for them and they've gone back to L-19's as their standard tow planes.

NEW Sporting Code rules by
[email protected]
Well done FAI! You've now made it pretty much impossible to do a Silver distance from my airport with any acceptable degree of risk. The only airport that we can fly to that has terrain suitable for an outlanding near it is less than 50KM from our airport. Terminal airspace restrictions make it...

Accounts of Parachuting Experiences by

Michael:
What sort of landings do the modern ram-air canopies give if the jumper does nothing to flare or otherwise control the touchdown? I was under the impression that a round chute can't give you the control and nice touchdown that a ram-air can but that it will deliver you reasonably safely...

Rolls on tow by
[email protected]
There was a Disney TV movie named Sky Trap produced when I was a kid in which a Blanik did a slow roll on tow. I believe Art Scholl was the pilot. Being Disney though you certainly won't find any clips on YouTube. There is an article about the filming in a contemporary issue of Soaring.

Walter Dittel FSG-50, 60, 60M by
[email protected]
As far as I can tell all three of these Dittel radios use the same mounting tray, connector type, connector location and wiring layout so I should be able to slip a 60 or 60M right into the mounting tray I have for the FSG-50 in my glider. Can anyone with experience confirm this for me?
I finally...

Twin Astir Retractable gear door mechanism pictures by

Anyone out there got any pictures, diagrams or a good description of the linkage that closes and opens the gear doors and its attachment points on the doors and main wheel strut? The doors on the one in my club were broken long ago (we are on a fairly rough grass field) and never refitted. I'm now...

Lifting The Blues by

I noticed that this film is listed as scheduled for screening at the SSA convention. Does anyone know how those of us not going to the convention might be able to see it? It's got to be just about the only soaring film I haven't seen.

Hello All,
I am returning to the sport after a 30 year hiatus. I have recently purchased an SHK1, which I am refinishing/restoring. My goal is to use this ship to earn FAI badges, not to fly competitively. Given this information, and a limited budget, I am looking for opinions regarding...

TE Probe on ASW-15 by
[email protected]
I'm trying to have an Ilec TE Probe mounted on my ASW-15. It looks
like one will have to cut a hole behind the rudder to fit the probe
from the backside of the fin. If anyone has any information or better
yet some pictures or drawings on the best way to install this, it
would be a great help.
Thank...
