High Visibility Paint Schemes by
Tony[_5_]
I know this subject has been discussed here before, but searchability
on google groups really stinks so I'm just starting a new thread.
Getting to be winter time here in the northern hemisphere so we need
something to talk about anyway.
I'm dreaming about new fabric on 373Y this winter. With that...

Another Downwind Dash by
Tony[_5_]
I had quit reading the Barry Schiff thread until I was alerted to
this:
"After ~40 years of participation in 'flying for fun' (mostly
soaring), I
recently participated in my Very First vulgar downwind dash...as Joe
Crew.
Proving that ships of 1-26 performance are incapable of XC, Joe...

Landout season has begun by
Tony[_5_]
First flight of the year in my Cherokee. I really really didn't mean to landout but sometimes it just happens. Oh well it was at a friends house although he wasn't home. He is supposed to be taking his first glider lesson tomorrow. I owe Leah Ice Cream. It must be getting close to...

back to my old self by
Tony[_5_]
Since moving to Kansas i've enjoyed a fairly consistent string of really good flights. Nothing against my homeland of Iowa but I had a lot of really short flights there, and not just one or two but sometimes a whole season of flying and barely making it more than Silver Distance. I did have a lot...

Gapa Geezer wins big! by
Tony[_5_]
Haven't heard much from the ol' Gapa Geezer lately but I see on his club website that he is the distinguished, honored winner of "The Tape Measure XC".. Congrats Geezer!!! Only the hardiest of XC pilots could pull of such an achievement, earned "for the shortest flight resulting in an out landing"....

Diamond Distance/Kowbell by
Tony[_5_]
RAS,
Since many of you have been long-time followers of my free distance attempts (that's you, Gapa Geezer), I felt compelled to report on last weekends Kansas Kowbell Klassic. Saturday was the day and there were 4 of us at the field to vie for the Kowbell. Me in Kate the Cirrus, Jerry in his...

Empty towball Pacific Northwest to ??? by
Tony[_5_]
I'm going to be in Bend, OR on Friday Sept 6 and from there will have an empty towball to basically anywhere in the country. Eventually I need to make it back to Moriarty to pick up the Cherokee and then Wichita to see Leah but I'm willing to go way out of the way if money is involved...

Empty towball to and from Reno by
Tony[_5_]
Towball available to Reno for the SSA convention from points east. Likely arriving in Reno early in the week of the convention, Feb. 25ish, but flexible.
Towball available from Reno to practically anywhere in the continental USA as long as I eventually make it to Wichita.
References available,...

Region 10 North! by
Tony[_5_]
Everyone had so much fun flying at Sunflower last year that we are going to do it again. You may remember last years first-of-its-kind "Low Performance" regional contest at Sunflower Gliderport near Hutchinson, KS. We had about 20 gliders of several varieties on the grid including homebuilts (kits...

National Records & Citizenship by
Tony[_5_]
I couldn't find much on a search but am really curious as to why
apparently National records are based on citizenship and not on the
location of the actual flight? This leads to very misleading listings
of National Records. For example the World Altitude Record of Fossett
and Enevoldsen of 50,721...

USA - Private Pilot glider tow compensation by
Tony[_5_]
I just came across this letter on another forum. I think we just
discussed this but it turns out that compensation is compensation and
the FAA is not in the business of delineating between "logging time"
compensation and "money"...

Winter is here - RAS Flight Club Contest by
Tony[_5_]
Last winter I had a thread documenting my Flight Club progress. A few
others also included their best times.
i found this link to the app for this year:
http://www.vintagegliderclub.org/simulator/hg_popup.htm
does anyone know where to find version 2? With the triangular
course? That was...

Cherokee Flies by
Tony[_5_]
First flight after recover in the Cherokee today in Marfa. Late day
launch but still got an hour with a climb from 1500 AGL to 5400
(10,200 MSL). Not too shabby and had a great time gaggling with
friends. The glider flies great, very smooth at low speeds and i was
able to circle slower than...

WSPA Seminar fundraiser by
Tony[_5_]
RAS,
I'm really excited to have two of my students heading out to Reno in
July for the WSPA Women's Soaring Seminar. One is my wife, Leah, who
many of you met at the SSA Convention in Little Rock. She should be
soloed by then. The other is Summer Gajewski, a High School Senior,
who graduates...

I've got a friend who is selling a Monerai. We've all heard of the
never ending Monerai projects getting passed from person to person but
this is a fine example of a well built FLYING Monerai, the motorglider
version. Email me for more information on the glider and contact info
for the...

RAS Qualified Instructor by
Tony[_5_]
Well I brought the Cherokee down to Littlefield, TX on Saturday hoping
for some good soaring. Ended up making it 2/3 around a 200 mile
triangle and most significantly got a 10,700 ft gain so my Gold Badge
should be complete after a little paperwork. Guess I'm alright to
start flying in the back...

Kowbell by
Tony[_5_]
Today is the 53rd Annual Kansas Kowbell Klassic. Pretty simple, whoever lands furthest away from Sunflower Gliderport wins the coveted trophy. No handicaps. I think many of the competitors will show up on the SSA tracking page so if you're looking for something to do on this Independence Day,...
