747 weight distribution by
Robin
Hello, this is an odd question of curiosity from an amateur: Two days
ago I was flying from Dulles to LHR on a United 747-400. The aircraft
taxied to the end of the runway, then the pilot announced there was a
problem with the weight distribution on the aircraft wings, and we
would have to move...

747 with Global Peace Ambassador markings at BWI by
jim
Like the subject states there has been a 747 at Baltimore-Washington
International with the markings "Global Peace Ambassador" painted on the
side sitting on the apron for a few days. Does anybody know anything
about it?

747-100 Checklist by
Bartscher
I recently acquired a control wheel off of a 747-135 (formerly N620US / N77772)
as a piece of aviation memorabilia. I'd like to get an original airline
checklist to put on the clipboard. This 747 flew for Northwest and National
during its career, so ideally I'd like to find a checklist from one of...

757 flaps miss-aligned in cruise by
AnyBody43
Hi,
I recently flew on a TCX... flight on what I suspect was a Boeing
757-200. The registration number was G-Fxxx.
I noticed that the trailing-edge inner and outer flaps were not aligned
with each other in the cruise. The flaps appeared to be fully retracted.
I estimate that the Outer Flap...

757 gets a 7 by
Andrew Burke
I'm a plane spotter.
No, I don't wear an anorak (it's more like a wind breaker) and write down
the registration numbers or anything like that. But I do look up every time
I hear an airliner passing over. GA planes and fighters are fine, but to me
there's something special about a jet airliner....

757-767-777 DNA by
[email protected]
757-767-777 DNA: What's in common, what's different?
I know all three share the same cockpit(section ahead of
'41'). This is why the 757's front end looks bug-eyed,
the 767, just right, and the 777 - slightly squinty, widening
aft to accommodate a nearly 747-wide cabin.
Secondly, the...

787 Built in 50 locations by

Hope this is the correct site for this sort of question but I see the new 787 is built in 50 locations around the world, anyone know why this is and how it can be cost effective, given what must be enormous transport costs ...

?? Chemistry of fire retardant?? by
vincent p. norris
I read in a recent Av Leak that the stuff fire-bombers drop is a
mixture of phosphate fertilizer and water.
Can anyone tell me how the phosphate functions as a fire retardant?
Is it ammonium phosphate, sodium phosphate, or what?
Thanks. vince norris

?? Sikorsky S-38 ?? by
vincent p. norris
I've seen the S-38 named "Osa's Ark," owned by explorers Martin and
Osa Johnson, in a museum somewhere. EAA doesn't list it.
Anyone know where I saw it?
Thanks. vince norris

A & P Mechanics Unite ! by
Hans de Bruin
Over the last days I have been looking for some sort of forum for A&P
mechanics on the internet. I failed to find any. So I slapped a forum
together on my webpage. Who knows, maybe in the future I can just go
there and say "Listen, I have this weird thing happening on our
Cheyenne II, anyone ever...

A bit of aviation history - 16 December 1936 by
Seppo Sipilä
Here is a bit of aviation history.
67 years ago, on 16 December 1936 in Finland, Helsinki Airport at
Malmi was first opened to traffic.
Helsinki-Malmi Airport is possibly the best-preserved still active
international airport left in the world from the pre-WWII era. The
milieu of this...
