Finally: The right-sized Thielert by
Thomas Borchert
Thielert has announced a diesel engine in the 230-HP-range, covering
the gap between the existing 135- and 350-HP models. Great news, IMHO,
since this is the kind of power many of the planes we fly need. First
target for certification seems to be the 182. Time frame is 2007. Nice!

transponder questions by
Road Dog
My transponder can't be seen by ATC anymore and I'm
trying to narrow down the cause and plan for the
repair. If it can be done simply by removing the
radio and taking it somewhere to be bench tested,
that'd be much easier for me. It's some vintage
of a KT76.
A couple of months ago, the altitude...

Can vacuum AI be removed if a certified electric one is installed?? by
Dave
I had an interesting discussion with other pilots about converting my
Piper Cherokee 6 to all electric. This would basically require
replacing the AI and DG with electric AI and elec. HSI. So, then,
there would be no use for vacuum pump. But, one pilot said that the
certified elec. AI only...

MU-2 ownership experience? by
Mike Ciholas
I'm in the throes of a big decision on my next airplane. One airplane
in consideration is an MU-2, probably a short body version from the
early to mid 1970s. I have been able to find detailed information,
gossip, opinions, local pilots, and so forth on my other candidate
types (like a Cessna...

I have a chance to get a KNS-80 to fill the hole in my panel, but
I've not had much luck finding an installation manual. Anyone have
one they'd sell/loan to me?

Help; Rough running Continental O-300D by
JFLEISC
I hate to keep bugging this group with my bizarre Cessna questions but it
repeatedly proves to be a good source of information.
History; Since I got my '61 C-172 with an O-300D several years ago it always
ran smooth but had high oil consumption. Before the second annual several of
the cylinders...

Luscombe 8E by
Brendan Grace
I'm looking into buying an 8 E and wonder if anyone who owns/rents one has
any insights they could share. Things good or bad. How hard is it to stay
current with such a short coupled tail dragger? Instruments that can be
added to bring it to IFR? Thanks.

182RG question by
Paul Anton
I am hoping to tap some of the expertise here to solve a problem I have run
into.
I am a retired guy who was called by a local Part 141 school to fill in as
their flightline mechanic until they could find a permanent A&P. They have
an early 182RG (serial 141) that has an ongoing electrical...

Hi group
I purchased a used encoder altimeter (Aero Mechanism TSO-C10b/TSO-C88
model 8142-M3H0) unfortunately the drawing describing the connections
is damaged.
Does anyone have such electrical connection schematic drawing (a copy
of it) to send me so I could at last understand how to plug...

Broken line to Oil Temperature Probe, Repairable? by
rkane33
I have a Cessna 172M with o-320-e2d engine.
The metal line connecting the gage to the Oil Temperature Probe broke. The
probe is inside the Oil pressure housing on the back of engine.
Can the line be reattached to the 2 inch long Copper probe by welding?
I believe the gage works under capillary...

2006 Annual -- My 8th "Owner-Assisted" Inspection by

So, our '74 Pathfinder (Cherokee 235) is back in for annual -- its fifth one
with us -- and I spent the day working with my mechanic on my 8th
"owner-assisted" annual inspection. A few previously known squawks have
been addressed:
1. The ELT. It barely passed last year, and this year it didn't...

I just got off the phone with Jay Honeck. The group that had left KIOW this

are that a Cherokee pilot perished in an air to ground crash. No other
details.
For those that are going to the Rec.Aviation.*.* party...

Mode S Transponders - Can ATC tell the difference? by
Doodybutch
I am the proud owner of a new $5000.00 mode S transponder. I just took my
first long trip with it, and I began to wonder if ATC sees any difference on
their radar screen with Mode S. As you know, Mode S transmits your aircraft
ID as well as your assigned code and altitude.
I did notice that...

First flight in our "new" Ercoupe... by
Jay Honeck[_2_]
A few months ago a group of us "pilots with kids" realized that our
pilot-rated children could no longer afford to fly even the clapped-out
rental 150s at our local FBO. Over a few beers, we started plotting a way to
help.
All of us were already aircraft owners -- but we all owned...

Sealed Battery by

It's battery replacement time for the 172 and I'm contemplating the
installation of a sealed battery to eliminate the destructive corrosion
that's plaguing our new battery box.
I've done some research courtesy of google and the consensus appears to be
that the sealed units function equally well as...

Competition for Trade-A-Plane launched tonight by
Montblack
Trade-A-Plane (TAP) has some new competition I learned tonight.
If you own an airplane AND are a pilot, you will receive a (FREE)
subscription to a new buying guide, Aircraft Owner (AO).
I think the first Vol. went out tonight. 125,000 copies shipped.
Take that TAP.

engine trouble by
mindenpilot
I have about 1100 SMOH on my IO-360 (2000 TBO).
Compressions are all 70 or above.
There was only a tiny bit of metal at the last oil change.
That was shortyly after I bought it, at which time I also put a spin-on
filter adapter on.
The engine has been running great, especially lately.
However, my...
