18m polar curve by
Alan Irving
Can anyone supply a polar curve for a current 18m sailplane?
Ideally the Ventus 2cxT, although Schempp-Hirth polars
seem to be unobtainable.
I already have the Dick Johnson review of the ASH-26E,
so will use the polar from that if all else fails.
That said, if anyone has a curve for a...

Vertex VXA-150 Pro V handheld radio question by
Alan Meyer
I just got a new Vertex VXA-150 handheld transceiver and wonder
if anyone else who has one can answer a question for me.
I programmed in two frequencies and set the radio for "dual
scan" The secondary frequency was very active, but it was
difficult to hear on dual scan. The broadcast was...

Winter mechanical vario reading high by
Alan Meyer
Last year my Winter mechanical variometer may have read a bit
high, but not very much. Today however, on my first flight of
the year, the vario appeared to read 400 feet high in the air and
about 75 feet high on the ground. With the vario reading 400
feet per minute up, the altimiter wasn't doing...

DG-300/303 owners... by
Alan Montague
Is there any scope for non-destructive testing by industrial
radiology?
X-rays are sensitive in showing up minor ripples in
children's bones? Would they work for the ripples in
my spar?
If so it might be financially viable.

GPS stopping on Android recorders by
Alan Walls
Hi All,
Recently I had a couple of people ask about position outages on IGCDroid cell phone recordings. I thought I would share what is happening as this is likely relevant to other pilots and other Android cell phone GPS apps.
Note: As is often true with Android, not all phone behave the same...

IGCDroid Android IGC flight recorder is now free by
Alan Walls
Hi All,
I'm the developer of IGCDroid. My mistake is your gain... IGCDroid is now free for everybody, forever. Enjoy.
For those that don't know, IGCDroid is a simple IGC flight recorder for your Android cell phone. Additionally, it allows real time flight tracking with either glideport.aero...

Competition Catering (RAF Honington) by
Alan(Nobby) Clarke
The RAFGSA is looking at catering for the 15M Nationals/Inter
Services and have identified a number of potential
caterers in the local area. We would however prefer
a gliding experienced soup dragon if possible. Is there
any individual or club who would like to consider providing
the catering for...

Westerboer Problem by
Albert Gold
A couple of years go my partner and I bought a 1985 Discus equipped with
a Westerboer VW910 & VW921 electric variometer and flight computer
system. It worked well until the end of last season when it suffered a
total failure, not a disgrace given the age of the instruments. Having
discovered that...

Tail Dolly Tire by
Albert Gold
The casing of the tire on my tail dolly for my Discus B, which I suspect
dates from the time the ship was delivered to it's original owner in
1985, has split along the tread, allowing a bit of the inner tube to
bulge out. The marking on the side wall of the tire, which is of German
origin, says,...
