Comparing Drjack XCSkies RASP and TopMeteo - U.S. Soaring - Comments? by
WaltWX[_2_]
I am interested in hear U.S. glider pilot comments on the pros/cons of all these sites for soaring forecasts. I have used them all at one time or another and find them generally comparable. But, some like RASP and DrJack do a much better job of locating convergence zones/shear lines....

Godspeed Bill Bartell by
Tim Taylor
Many of us received word this morning that Bill is missing and
presumed dead in a body surfing accident in Mexico (Thanks, Roy). Was
not sure how it would affect me, but I have been pretty subdued all
day. Hard to think Bill won't be there to call when I need advice on
flying the Ventus and which...

Looking for information by
Scott
I'm looking for sources to use to sell glider rides. I have a persuasive
speech competition and I thought maybe some of you ride sellers could help
with your expertise on the subject.

Hey guys, after my first gliding (sorry, I'm English ;) ) session a
few months ago I'm dying to get into the sport, and I've got a couple
more sessions lined up over summer.
Anyways, amongst other things I'm a keen software developer and I've
recently stumbled across Google's Android. For those of...

Looking for a PZL compass by
Kirk Stant
I'm looking for a PZL KI-13A compass to replace mine that has become
almost unuseable - the plastic window has clouded and the numbers
cannot be read very easily anymore (understatement!).
Anyone out there have one sitting on a shelf gathering dust? I know,
what do I need a compass for...well, my...

Outlanding stories by
bagmaker
OK, Ive not done one.
Been checked out, approved and even go to the "all ready to break my outlanding virginity" stage during many flights -only to be saved by a low thermal or afternooon crop fire. So, outlanding is an interesting idea that I am sure to come to grips with soon enough, weather...

"Outlandings" discussion by
[email protected]
So, what do you call an outlanding? If you land at an established
airport/airfield is this an "Outlanding"? Or is it an uncompleted
flight into an airport. I have read a lot of club SOP's that recommend
a "planned" outlanding into an airport as training for a real
outlanding! Not the same thing. Is...

Flight Control Failures by
Mike the Strike
Following the thread on landing with one spoiler, I wonder what
proportion of landing accidents result from mechanical failure or
jamming of primary flight controls and spoilers/dive brakes. I
personally know of a couple of failures - one spoiler handle sheared
off as the pilot did his pre-landing...

Making a Glider Easier to See in the Air by
ContestID67
I live in a fairly busy area, airplane wise. Just last weekend I
spotted a single engine plane coming more or less straight at me at my
altitude. I quickly banked to 1) get out of the way and 2) be more
visible to the approaching airplane. I didn't notice any reaction so I
don't know if he saw...

OK, so I've just been driving with it recently. But I have kinda
figured it out, and have also set up an email filter to generate a
much more useful email or text message position report. What follows
will be most useful for someone who already has one of these, but it
may...

The ravages of time? by

OK All,
So I've been 'round and 'round trying to figure out the right glider
to buy (all year). I'm sure you all are getting tired of me by now! :-

But I have a related question for you (for once that does not involve
a "Which glider is better" question):
How detrimental to performance are...

taller battery holder/clips for Ventus 2? by
Frank[_12_]
I'm considering the addition of a PowerFlarm and probably a
transponder (TTG21/22) to my Ventus 2bx, and am wondering if anyone
has modified the forward and/or aft battery restraints to accommodate
taller batteries. The restraints in my ship are set up for the
typical 7-9AH SLA with dimensions...
