Scattering Ashes by
Chuck Patterson
A friend died earlier this year and his widow has asked
that we scatter his ashes from a sailplane, preferably
an ASK 21. Does anyone have experience with this? Visions
of various ash scattering scenes from the movies come
to mind – scenes that I do not wish to reenact.
We have considered running...

Seeking Jerry H. Odell by
jcarlyle
Sixteen years ago, while I was testing VC-10s at Brize Norton, Sqn Ldr
Jerry Odell took me for my first glider ride at Bicester. I've lost
touch with Jerry, and now that I'm actually piloting gliders I'd like
to thank him again for introducing me to this wonderful sport.
Does anyone on RAS have...

what do the bachelors do for crew? by
[email protected]
I've been doing some reading about sailplane racing, and it seems
pretty clear that every racer needs a crew. He needs at least one
person who can help him ready the plane and retrieve him when he lands
out. Now, for most guys, I'm guessing crew=wife. But what do all the
single guys do?

safer than power flying? by
[email protected]
The following, from _Sails in the Sky_, caught my attention:
"Is sailplaning safer than power flying?" someone asked.
"We think so," said Jones. "You're not moving as fast, there is no
danger of an engine conking out, no chance of fire. And when you soar,
you have to keep your mind on what...

ASG-29/ASW-27 wing refinish by
[email protected]
I have heard that the new ASG-29 and many of the ASW-27's have had a
noticeable spar cap shrinkage problem. I am looking for an unbiassed
discussion of this problem, the extent of the problem and possible
solutions (other than a wing refinish).

Looking for Reading List Suggestions by
Chas
I'm a SEL pilot looking to transition to gliders. I would welcome any
suggestions as to reading/study materials. Nice way to spend the winter
waiting for the spring and start of operations at local soaring facilities.
Thanks

SN-10 vs CAI 302 by
Frank
Hi,
I have been using a SN-10B/Volkslogger combination in my LS-4 for the
last 5 years and have loved it. However, I just acquired a glider with
a CAI-302/PDA combination and am contemplating swapping the systems
before selling my LS-4.
I like the presumed flexibiity of taking the PDA with me at...

Transponder intall in an LS-4 by
Dan Peters
My partner and I are thinking about installing a transponder
in our LS-4. If anyone has done this in an LS-4, can
you send either a textual description or pictures of
the antenna installation?
We cannot use our tail battery (because of a repair),
and I wonder if we can put the antenna in that...

aviation RSS feeds? by
[email protected]
I've been playing around with an RSS reader recently, and it looks like
it's here to stay. I've found a bunch of feeds that are well worth my
attention.
Have y'all found any specifically aviation-related RSS feeds that are
worth a look?

Here is a couple of videos from YouTube of the modified Tost winch that set

I used a Monroy traffic detector in my Ventus several years ago but was

traffic in that...

The Sky is Their Limit by
[email protected]
In 1967, the US soaring community received a perfect storm of publicity
as three major mainstream publications printed articles about their
sport. Membership in the SSA shot up.
I am in the process of making these articles available on the web. Here
is the first, from the April 1967 issue of...
