Cheap self-rig system demonstration by Frank Paynter[_2_]
Evan Ludeman (T8) took this video of me assembling my Ventus 2bx at Wurtsboro last week, using my el-cheapo single-rig system. The video has not been edited in any way, and assembly that morning was actually a little slower than usual ;-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcRipsiPgdk TA

Balleka videos have been deleted from YouTube by [email protected]
I was sad to notice this morning that all of Balleka's videos have been deleted from YouTube. I owe my interest in the sport to those videos. Though I'm sure the family has their reasons for wanting them gone, it feels like part of Matt's legacy has been destroyed.

Nervous flyer considering learning to glide by Caecilius
I'm a nervous flyer who spends a lot of time as a commercial aircraft passenger. My number one anxiety is that freefall feeling when the plane drops, like you'd get on a rollercoster (I don't like those either). As a bet with myself, I bought a trial lesson at my local gliding club in SE England....

New PNA ...at least to me by [email protected]
Anyone have experience with the Vertica V2? http://www.verticasports.com/shop/v2-flight-instrument/ Wonder if it exactly the same as the new Oudie with the bright screen. If so it certainly will help interest in WinPilot Pro,XCSoar, LX8000, StrePla, and et al Ben

Filser interfacing woes by CV
Hello all, My old portable PC packed up definitely a few weeks ago and when I started looking around for a new one I found that none of them have the old traditional serial port anymore !? This rather leaves me in the lurch with the Filser GPS-logger in my glider, since the interface is over a...

Cobra bottle jack failure by db_sonic
I had a failed jack that I took apart to see why it was not maintaining the extended position. In my case the ramp would slowly lower back to collapsed postition, which besides annoying, can be a danger to the fuselage. Turns out that it was the synthetic plunger on the main piston leaking. So...

Glider books or movies? by vic20owner
Are there any good stories (books & movies, fiction or nonfiction) which include a lot of glider flying? A book about cross country gliding would be perfect... a documentary, etc. Thanks -tom

Trailer tow vehicle fuel pumps by Bill Daniels
As there seems to be a lot of interest in X/C, landouts and retrieves, possibly from remote areas, let me bring up a problem area - crappy electric fuel pumps. Most vehicles these days are fuel injected with an electric fuel pump in the tank. These electric pumps, according to an informal...

If your bored, think about this and notes about Ely, Nv. by [email protected]
Add up your ten longest flights, you have made in your lifetime of soaring, and then average them. I was on the phone today with Carl Herold, IV, he just averaged his 10 longest flights, they averaged 699.4 miles. 699.4 miles (statute) is equal to 1,125.58 kilometers, ok,...

tow hook limitation question by Chris
Our club is looking at new tow plane. The plane has a Schweizer tow hook with "1200 lbs max" stamped on it. Does anybody know what that relates to? Is this the max gross weight of the glider or max tow tension or...? I've tried Schweizer, but they couldn't help since they are no longer making tow...

First timer wants soaring description by TravelMan
I'll be taking my first glider ride this week (not soaring, just gliding) and was wanting a description of what to expect. I've never flown in anything but a passenger jet, so that's my only frame of reference. We'll be using an ASK 21 model. I've been told gliding is like floating down with no...
