Experience with Lithium Iron Phosphate Glider batteries? by
SF
During the winter of 2009 I was bored, and aggravated with the sealed lead acid batteries that I was using in my sailplane. They didn't hold the voltage above 12v for very long, they needed replacement every few years, and I had one die 5 miles away from the airport at the end of a 300K badge...

Glider - Towplane Signals by
Mike the Strike
Training manuals and,in the USA, the FAA test, require knowledge of all
the in-air signals between a glider and towplane. In all my 25-years
of aerotows, I've only had four go bad (less than 1%). In one, the
towplane engine quit just after liftoff, but early enough to enable us
both to land on...

Cleaning a 3-way TE probe by
Jack Glendening
I have a vertical-stabilizer mounted TE probe of the type that has 3
ports: ram, static, and venturi. I have been having problems with my
varios and LNAV and had previously checked out the plumbing but had
only looked at the "outside" end of the TE probe itself, which I
remove after each flight. ...

Miguel Lavalle
I am a low time pilot working to get my private rating. I have the
opportunitty to buy an H201b Standard Libelle:
1) Is this glider suitable / safe for a beginner like me?
2) How many total hours does a glider like this have of useful life?
Regards
Miguel

HK36, G109 or E17 touring motor gliders soaring performances by
PRG55
I use to fly on the SF28 for a few years and would like to buy a 2
seats touring motor glider as the Dimona HK36, Grob 109 or the Taifun
E17.
I'm a bit concerned by poor soaring performances reported by
occasional flyers or good performances reported by the vendors!!
Who could report on owner...

Sparrow Hawk Glider on the cover of Machine Design by
SF
The June 4, 2009 issue of Machine Design has a Sparrow Hawk glider on
the cover. The article does a very good job of covering all three of
Windward Performance's current sailplane projects. The Sparrow Hawk
13m ultralight, the Duck Hawk 15m racing plane and the Perlan
(designed to break the world...

Which Tow Vehicle by
Bob C
Which vehicle to tow a glider trailer has been debated
ad nauseum on RAS. I have always been a staunch supporter
of towing with a full-size truck. After the events
of last Thursday, I feel my position is vindicated.
I was towing my sailplane westbound on Interstate 40
near Gallup, NM. I had...

Silver Badge Fun (?) - real challenges? by
Nyal Williams
Location, location, location! A well-known US pilot
had the gold altitude and distance certified when he
had a total of 19hrs gliding time and had not yet
done the 5-hr flight. He is a person for whom I have
enormous respect, a natural, but he still had to have
the location at that stage of the...

Windward's Sparrow Hawk and Duck Hawk out of production? by
J. Nieuwenhuize
Windward has revamped their website (http://windward-performance.com/) and all sailplanes have disappeared from their website. Anybody in the know as to whether they've ceased any production, or sold off the molds etc?

Bonus Jet glider demo weekend by

This weekend Bob Carlton brought his Bonus Jet glider to Phoenix for
Arizona Soaring Association members to demo and presented a fine
PowerPoint / video presentation after our BBQ dinner at Turf Soaring.
What a great time we all had. The weather cooperated, and although it
was a tad windy, there...

Self-launch v Sustainer by
Duster
Retired now and looking to purchase a motorized glider; weighing the pros and cons of self-launchers v sustainers. Two-placer is a priority, as I would like to take my wife. Single place acceptable as long as I can keep her happy sightseeing. We plan on extensive travelling, some to both...

Oudie gear warning? by
[email protected]
Hey all - I just acquired an original Oudie and I have noticed a gear warning in the profile setup. Not mentioned in the manual and the previous 2 owners do not know about it. I have not noticed it trying to get my attention in the pattern either. I will ask Naviter next unless youze can fill me in.
