?? Chemistry of fire retardant?? by
vincent p. norris
I read in a recent Av Leak that the stuff fire-bombers drop is a
mixture of phosphate fertilizer and water.
Can anyone tell me how the phosphate functions as a fire retardant?
Is it ammonium phosphate, sodium phosphate, or what?
Thanks. vince norris

ICOM A23 Transformer Specs by
[email protected]
Would someone please give me the specs for the AC-DC transformer for
the ICOM A-23? I've misplaced mine and ICOM wants $40 for a
replacement. I can probably do better with a generic one from Radio
Shack. I need to know the polarity, DC voltage, and amps.
Thanks

Engine on Global Flyer by
Brent
They're saying the Global Flyer's jet engine burns 102 pounds of fuel an
hour. If that kind of fuel weighs in at 6 pounds per gallon, that's
about 17 gallons an hour, or roughly double what I burn in the little
Cherokees I fly. Then again, the jet propelled the Flyer about 2 times
as fast with a...

MD26-28 400Hz inverter - not very reliable by
Tim Shoppa

I've had two of the above fail in under 3 years.
I would guess that the failures are related to adverse voltages
coming in or an adverse load on the output. The electrical
environment of a small plane can actually be much more abusive
than a modern car, because of the wide...

Georeferencing Maps [was GPS and airspace] by
John Clonts
Hello Tom,
Thanks for the tips. I found that when I use the "raw data" it does work as
you say (http://aviationtoolbox.org/raw_data/FAA/sectionals/current/). Is
this what you are using?
But I have trouble when I try to use one of Kyler's "processed images"...

"Squawk standby" by
Roy Smith
I had a wierd thing happen a week or so ago.
We were VFR, and called up POU tower (class D satellite of NY Approach),
10 southwest landing with blah, blah. The tower controller told us to
squawk standby. After confirming that instruction, we did so and a
little while later he told us to squawk...

Foreign Aircraft N-Numbers by
Randy L.
I am a relatively new VFR pilot, and when I'm not flying a Cessna 172, I
like to practice flying using Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. I recently
downloaded & installed on FS2004 a very nice French single engine
all-composite general aviation aircraft called an APM20 Lionceau (Lion cub).
This is...

what's in that air? by
Eastward Bound
Everytime I'm near a BIG and busy airport I start to feel a little
weak and lightheaded. Almost as if I'm going to faint but I don't.
I never had a problem with emises or nausea and haven't yet vomited
when I thought of sick thoughts and I never get motion/ sea sickness.
I think to myself that...
