"FAI Combined" Class? by
[email protected]
Hey all - I've been seeing this terminology around, such as for next month's Region 10, but it doesn't line up with the current rules - can anyone clarify what this means?

"Finisher" by

Its my understanding DG and Lange do not "finish" their sailplanes. What third party company does this for them?

"Flarm, no GPS" by
jfitch
I am getting this bitching Betty alarm every so often. It may do it for a minute or so, then goes away, then comes again.
Looking at the Flarm IGC file, there are comment lines that look like this:
LFLA213757GPS 7 45
Which I believe represents GPS status (7 satellites?)
Then I get some that...

"Glider Pilots Make Safe Landings..." by
Evan Ludeman[_4_]
This is so unusual it deserves mention. Newsies wrote up a couple of
safe off field landings... and got it right!
Funny picture too.

"Glider Warming" gift suggestions by
Uncle Fuzzy
Recently, a club member got a new (to him) glider. I thought it would
be nice to put together a few useful items to give him as a "Glider
Warming" gift. Here's what I have so far:
MKIV yaw string
3M General Adhesive Cleaner
Bowlus wing gap tape
Any other ideas for small 'nice to have' items??

"Grab A Glider" by
Jack Hamilton
Northbound on US 101 in South San Francisco this morning, I caught a
glimpse of a billboard with an electronic sign on the bottom.
Unfortunately, I had been looking down at something (don't worry, I was
a passenger) and by the time I looked up we were almost past the sign,
but I did read "Grab a...

"Ground Launches" by Derek Piggott by
Randy Teel
I am reading ""Ground Launches" by Derek Piggott". In his book
he says, " I like to give a comprehensive briefing about launch
failures by audio tape because that ensures that all the vital points
are covered"
Does anyone have an audio file of this briefing?

"Heads Up" to Good Soaring Conditions by
Randy[_2_]
Unless you are closely watching the daily weather and know
it trends, a lot of good soaring days are never taken advantage
of. For those who watch the weather, they are rewarded with
some great soaring.
Oh how I wish that I could have joined all of the ridge flights
last week out if Pennsylvania...

"High Temp" Tape? by
Blue Whale
Is there a tape out there for sealing gaps on metal sailplanes that
doesn't turn into a sticky mess after exposure to the sun and heat?
Would be nice to have a somewhat permanent solution that only needs to
be replaced a few times a year on gliders that sit outside assembled
for the season.

"Jetman" considered by FAA to be a "glider" by
Bob
Another "jet" in the news today in Arizona. Yves Rossy, the Swiss guy
who has small wings with jets attached to his back, who drops out of a
helicopter, starts the engines and flies around using his body and
arms for control, and then lands under parachute, had planned a
"flight" over the Grand...
