Winch launch simulation with Matlab by 2G
I ran across this fascinating thesis on winch launching from Germany by Christoph Santel (2008). It uses Matlab+Simulink for the modelling platform. He deals with a variety of issues such as steel vs synthetic cable....

Comparing Nano 4 with Colibri X by Stephen Szikora
On the Cumulus Soaring website, it described the Nano 4 map as North Up only. Yet the most recent manual from LXNav says you can select North Up or Track Up. I wonder if updated firmware allows the Track Up option now. Does anyone know? I also read the Colibri X manual and it does specify Track Up...

Pawnee Mirrors, Fuselage Mounted - Where to buy please? by Shane Neitzey
After many years of service, both of our fuselage mounted rear view mirrors are failing. The mechanic who installed them said they were made by TOST. They resemble automotive side view mirrors. Anyone know where I can get a pair? Easy now grin

Who is the webmaster for SSF? by Tango Eight
This page http://www.soaringsafety.org/accidentprev/safetyarticles.html is full of broken links. And there's no contact info for a web master or other obvious go-to person. best, Evan Ludeman / T8

LAK-12 polar for SN10B by GE
Hello, Anyone have a good set of points to indoctrinate an SN10B on the ways of a LAK-12? I cannot quite get the numbers I need from the LAK owner's manual, and the polar is not included in the canned bunch that comes with the ILEC. Nimbus II is close, I suppose, but I'd like to get it...

(Hijacked) Bang for the Buck by Derek Copeland
In my experience, owning a higher performance glider just means that you land out further away! Admittedly I fly in damp little Britain, so the further you go, the more likely you are to encounter a poor airmass. Derek C -------------------------------- At 19:18 30 January 2006, Bob Whelan...

HOT LANDING ? by [email protected]
Page 27 of the December issue of Soaring magazine shows a pic of an LS-10 at the 2008 WGC seemingly very low over the ground and "about to touch down" . The picture does not show the landing gear down. Does anyone know the outcome of this particular landing ? Cheers, Charles

It's student weather! by [email protected]
A fellow instructor and I were just musing today that this is the perfect weather for students. We live and fly in some of the most dynamic soaring conditions in the world, where half the year you're being battered by thermals from 11:00 am until sunset, and a good part of the rest of the year the...

Question about preparing a x-country plan with decision (go/no go) points... by [email protected]
I've seen mention of this quite a bit, but have not been able to find examples of the different ways to do this. Anyone care to elaborate on what you do? By the way, I have a flight computer with GPS (302/303) and also have the GlidePlan software for printing areas of sectionals with...
