Congratulations to young american glider pilots and their Club/FBO sponsors
who successfuly applied for SSA grants in 2003. Brad Towne of the Caesar
Creek Soaring Club won the Bultman award for his excellence as a ground crew
worker. Garrret Willat (mentor: Gary Ittner) and Mike Westbrook...

Where is the right place to go? So far, some wading through the Grob

Soaring video Denver Channel 4 by
John H. Campbell
The nifty postings by Gary and Garret reminded me that Mile High Gliding
was visited 12/6/06 by a local news team. I thought that Bob (pilot) or
Gunnar (TV pro) would have beaten me to a posting. The video link is:
In this case, it was a...

Kolstad scholarship (USA) by
John H. Campbell
A few months ago, Ralph Kolstad, our Kolstad committee chair, challenged
the previous winners of the Kolstad Scholarship via SOARING magazine to
see who could raise the most money for the Kolstad Youth Scholarship
fund. He reported last week that he has raised most of the donations and
matched...

Bultman award (USA) by
John H. Campbell
We hope you Club and FBO leaders have given thought to recognizing one
of your young line-crew workers and have prepared an application to send
in to SSA by the 4/30 deadline. See www.soarcsa.org/ssa/ssay/byfs.htm .
We really would like to increase the award's soar-selfishly stipend,
currently at...

celebrity pilot news (USA) by
John H. Campbell
Thanks to TV's "Party of Five" and"Lost" star Matthew Fox (you probably read
this newsgroup) for a fine brief explanation of why he flies sailplanes
(apparently 5 years now), and what soaring is all about. This a couple of
nights ago to late late night host Carlson Daly, who was game with the...

SSA scholarship news (USA) by
John H. Campbell
This would be more appropriate on a subset of news.ssa.org, I guess, but I'm
not positive those newsgroups are online. Anyway, the nice update from 2003
Bultman winner Brad Towne in the Sept. SOARING (p. 4) reminds me to pass on
some notes:
KOLSTAD: USA Citizen, SSA member, Silver Badge (or...

Young Eagles push (USA) by

Well, I did another 10 Young Eagle rides over the weekend. How about you?
A reminder that if just one individual at every Club and FBO in the country
would do a half dozen each month, the american soaring community could add
10,000 to EAA's total and bring them up to the 1 million mark by...

Soaring poster in movie by
John H. Campbell
Saw the interesting flick "Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind' yesterday.
In one scene, I think in the offices of the mind-eraser company Lacuna,
there is a soaring poster in the background. Looked like an overhead shot of
an ASK-21.

Winch Launching in US by
john hawkins
I have recently started gliding again after a long absense. I no longer have
funds to support my power plane habit and am soaring as less expensive means
of getting airborne. I am surprised to see that winch tows in the USA are
still almost non existant. Why not. Surely a winch is much cheaper...
