Ventus2 Airworthiness Directive - flaperon drive by John McLaughlin
This instructions for this AD refer to a Feb 2020 Maintenance Manual amendment, in case an access hole has to be cut. Has anyone had sight of this amendment yet?

Ventus rigging advice, please? by John McLaughlin
I've recently started flying a Ventus2. I can't rig the thing without a lot of struggle. The trouble is, there's a cover above the spars and you can't see anything once the first wing is in. I struggle to get the second wing to fit, never knowing whether it's a bit too high or a bit too low....

Tail dolley wheels? by John McLaughlin
Is it ok to use a solid rubber tyre for my tail dolly wheel, or do I risk damaging the glider?

Mountain High Cannula/Mask? by John McLaughlin
Does everyone stick to the 18k limit for the cannula and 25k for the mask, or are these limits considered advisory only?

Pulse oxymeter use by John McLaughlin
I've searched this forum and google, but can't find the information - can anyone tell me what readings I should expect to see at altitude? Presumably, a steady decrease from the ground level reading, despite using supplemental oxygen? But without a table of what's normal for each altitude, how...

Moving a Cobra trailer? by John McLaughlin
Can anyone advise the best way to pull a trailer backwards out of its parking space, using a vehicle? I suspect that the two handles on the back of the trailer, or rather the structure they're attached to, wouldn't be strong enough. There are two aluminium skids on the bottom of the trailer,...

Ventus 2 undercarriage? by John McLaughlin[_2_]
The undercarriage lever seems reluctant to stay in it's detent with the wheel down - it'll pop out with the lightest touch and the wheel has been known to retract, going over a bump. One option is to push a wooden wedge against the lever, to hold it in place, but does anyone know if there's a...

Still too many alerts and warnings by John Mittell
I have unchecked all but the critical warning. Does the vertical range limit the number of warnings by displaying only those threats within the bounds of vertical range. If so, what is a safe number, 500 feet?

Free RICO Variometer by John Murphy
I replaced the RICO variometer that came with the G102 I bought a few years ago. I believe it still works, and I have a manual. I don't have the tubes and assorted flasks that came with it. If anyone wants it, it is free to a good home. All you need to do is pay shipping, which will probably be...

Trouble Getting Hotel Room For SSA Convention by John Murphy
About a week ago I tried to get a hotel room at the Doubletree during the SSA convention. I asked for the SSA special price and was told that they had no records of the SSA or any special room rates. They quoted me a rate of $159.00. I then called back this morning and the reservation agent told...

Transponder vs. Portable Transponder Detectors by John Murphy
Dear All: I fly a G102 out of Alliance, Nebraska, for most of the year. Other than a daily commercial shuttle flight from Denver, there is almost no traffic at the airport or in the area where I soar. There are no other gliders at all. However, from time to time I'll come into contact with...

Flight Polars for Grob 102 by John Murphy
I've got a Grob 102 Standard Astir III. The manual that came with the plane has one flight polar diagramed. The diagram contains flight polars for 3 different configurations of the G102. Because so many lines are drawn in close proximity to each other, its not a diagram that can be used for...

Painting aluminum glider trailer by John Murphy
I have a 20+ year old trailer for my G102. Presently, its bare sheet aluminum. I want to paint it white to reduce the amount of heat absorbed by the trailer skin. A local autobody shop quoted me $1600.00 to cover with a polyurethene paint over an epoxy primer. This is far more than I wanted to...
