What about Brand "X"? by
Tom S.
There's (understandably) a lot of discussion about Piper vs. Cessna vs.
Mooney...
I'm considering a (Rockwell) Commander 114B. Their marketing hype makes it
seem that the Commanders have a much better safety record than their
competition. Anyone have any input on that?
How about maintenance...

Has anyone played with th e Airmap 1000 by
R. Hubbell
I was looking at this unit on the web and it looks great. If anyone has had any
hands on with this it would be interesting to hear first impressions or even
second or third.

Audio Panel Recommendations by
Jay Honeck
My Narco audio panel works just fine. However, the faceplate has been glued
back together twice by my avionics shop. (How it got broken in the first
place is anyone's guess...)
In the recent intense cold, the epoxy has let go again, so I think it's time
to replace the unit. Other than requiring...

wanted: hangar door tips by
Joa
Our EAA chapter had a 40' hangar door that split in the middle and
folded sideways (each half). The ends were hinged and the center had
a single roller that ran in a track above. The bottom was not
attached in any way and just hung. It was held closed and open with
large steel pins that dropped...

Blow out static port by
[email protected]
Hi group,
There are larve in my static ports again.
The problem is that I do not have compressed air to blow them out.
I was thinking about using CO2 cartridges like they use for emergency
tire repairs. Or maybe a bicycle pump will do the job.
My concern is the max pressure I can use before I...

Garmin 430/530 and WAAS: Delayed again? by
Andrew Gideon
I've been surprised to read nothing here about the new delay for WAAS on the
430/530s. Perhaps it's not new to everyone else?
It was supposed to be available this summer. It's not. It's now projected
for third quarter of 2006. However, one must order before some time this
year to lock in the...

WxWorx or Anywhere Wx by
Jon Kraus
We are contemplating adding a weather uplink system and was wondering
what experience you have had on the WxWorx or Anywhere Wx. We are
leading towards the Anywhere Wx but wanted to get some comments on both.
Thanks!!

CFI in IMC with Student by
Roy Page
I am sure I can count on this newsgroup to give this question their best !
Would it be legal for a CFI to act as PIC from the right seat
with a student in IMC ?
In my opinion regardless of the legality, it would be less than sensible,
what say the group ?

Aircraft Financing by
[email protected]
I'm debating the purchase of a plane and I was wondering what the
current rates are that anyone has gotten for financing on an aircraft
for a loan amount of $50-60K for either a 5, 7, or 10 year term. I know
that AOPA can quote this, and I'll be calling them tomorrow during
business hours. However...

Key Locks -- Part II by
Jay Honeck
After reading the other posts about key locks, the responses brought another
question to mind.
My key ignition switch works very hard, and the key can be removed in any
position. It's hard to push it in and keep the starter engaged (it's one
of those turn-while-you-push switches), so we usually...

Annual overdue by a few days by

Am I allowed to fly my plane to a near by airport in order to complete
the aircraft annual even if it is a few days after annual due date? In
other words annual was done on 4/29/07 and now we are into May. What
do I need to do to get permission and how long can this extension be.
Would this be...

Radio buzz by
Robert M. Gary
I have an MX170 radio that I use to pick up ATIS, etc. Recently it
will occassionally have a buzz in it that is so loud you cannot hear
the transmission. It will buzz on all freq, then later in the flight
it will go away. This unit is no longer supported so I'm wondering if
there is any chance this...

Engine over TBO at purchase by
DHead
Hi group.
I am interested in buying a Sundowner with 2035 TT E&A.
The owner (actually the broker) offered to allow $5K off the asking price to
have the engine O/H'd.
I am a student pilot and very much want this particular airplane, but I
don't think that $5K off a $14K O/H is reasonable.
The...

Are asking prices really as unrealistic as they look by
xyzzy
Been scanning airplane ads for a while and just recently started looking
some of them up using AOPA's Vref service for members.
According to that, most of the airplanes I see advertised are way
overpriced, some by significant margins.
Are the AOPA Vref prices too low? Or do people have...

Issues around de-ice on a 182 by
Andrew Gideon
One of the members of my club has proposed that we add TKS de-ice to our two
182s. Apparently, such a system is to become available later this year.
My reaction at first was negative. After all, in our near-NYC location, the
utility of such a tool is limited to a few months a year. Surely we...
