How high does your club tow? by
[email protected]
Our Club is reworking towing height fees. We are based south of Denver (elevation 7,000' msl). Normal tow heights are to about 9,000-10,000' msl. We have new members who now are asking for tows to 14,000' msl. This is causing up to 45-minute waits for the next tow. Normally, we get about four or...

SparrowHawk owners, lets hear from you! by
Gus Rasch
Ok you prepeg carbon fiber flying guys, lets hear from you! Everybody
else has chimed in but we have heard from very few actual owners of
the SparrowHawk.
Does is really perform, handle, assemble easily, fit you comfortably,
tow easily, thermal well, and impress you?
Gary Osaba could set a world...

Oximeters with alarms, data logging, and prices less than $300 by
Eric Greenwell
I can't believe how cheap oximeters are getting. Standard fingertip
models are available for $50; fingertip and wrist units with alarms,
data logging, and software are available for less than $300.
$50 Fingertip unit oximeter (no more excuses for using oxygen without...

Glider Wheel Brakes by
[email protected]
I know, I know. BTDT. Has anyone purchased a NEW sailplane lately,
and been happy with the wheel brake? The ONLY glider I've ever flown
with a decent (not great, but decent) wheel brake is the LVVSA's G103
Twin Astir. For me, a GREAT brake will REQUIRE moderation on my part
to keep from grinding...

Need GPS flight logs in NMEA format... by
[email protected]
....playing with some flight eval software, don't want IGC files. If
you have flights logged with a generic GPS (not a certified IGC
logger) please let me know. They should be complete from takeoff to
landing.
Thanks, Tom

Engine Out Landing. Big Deal? by
soartech
I almost snickered a bit after watching this "real life" story about
how a pilot had to land his plane after loosing engine power at 500
feet. After 35 years of flying gliders this looks normal to me. Maybe
power planes are really hard to fly. This guy has 4700 hours and he
overshot his turn onto...

Pee bag gel by
soaringjac
We have cats and just got a new type of litter for them called SoPhresh Gel Lock. This stuff would be great in a zip lock pee bag! Super absorbent and turns into a gel immediately. I have not tried it in flight yet, but once i saw how this stuff worked i knew it would be great to put in some pee...

Fitting canopy frame to fuselage advice by
Deputy Dog
My Discus2 canopy and frame fit a little too tight to the fuselage
making closing difficult or impossible when it really heats up. In
the winter it was much better, but still a bit tight. At normal
temps. in Florida (90 to 95 degrees this time of year) in the shade,
it is clearly too tight, since...

Canopy tinting by
Paul[_11_]
Question: Is it possible to tint a canopy like a car, for example, using automotive window tinting material? I know some canopies are tinted a bluish color, but what about a dark black tint?
Thanks,

1800km Sierra Wave XC Flight Today by
Kemp
Today Gordon Boettger flew his Kestrel on a 3TP flight of about 1800km
out of Minden, Nevada. A sunrise takeoff lead to the first turn near
Chilcoot, then South to near Inyokern, back North to Susanville, then
down to Palmdale. This flight handily beats my flight of last year on
a similar route. ...

Importing a glider by
Gus Rasch
Group,
Anyone ever import a glider from Europe? Care to share your
experiences or difficulties? There seem to be quite a few "deals"
over yonder and wondered if it would be worth the hassle/cost/red
tape/etc.
