Cameras in the Cockpit by
Casey[_2_]
Just wondering how others feel about sport cameras in the cockpit. Does it help with learning or is it a distraction? Would it help in accident investigations? I've seen some speculation with accidents and if a camera had been on pilot then that could help determine if a medical emergency was...

Cobra Cosmetics II: How to Refinish? by
[email protected]
An amazing (to me) amount of interest in refreshing faded vinyl trim
strips indicates pilots are serious about making their rides
look good. But what about the trailer itself? My 14-year-old glass-top
Cobra has a few cracks, nicks, etc., that will require work this
winter. Matching the existing...

L'Hotelier Fitting Safety Pins by
Dan Marotta
Those bobby pins are used extensively on my Stemme and I lost two that
fell out of their retaining strings during taxiing operations leaving me
with only one spare. A quick search found 1.2 mm hitch pins at WalMart
(of all places). I got a bag of 50 pins for under $8. Here's a link...

Colorado soaring pilot Stewart Kissell perished Friday in the crash of

radio / vario interference - HELP! by
Chris Davison
A problem with interference, all advice welcome.
..radio by itself works fine...but when I turn the
vario on I get huge amounts of noise (even some with
Squelch ON). Radio is a Dittel FSG50, vario is Cambridge
302/303.
Where do I start looking?

Encrypted Flarmnet files and 3rd party software by
jfitch
I think this merits its own thread. Due to legal concerns, Flarmnet has encrypted their files, and as I understand it most displays including the Butterfly will no longer show pilot or glider information. This is separate from the opt in/out of tracking as I understand it.
I liked the ability to...

SSA.org director announcement by
Vaughn
I don't know anything about the new guy, but I would rather have a
non-flying professional CEO that knows what needs to be done (and does it)
than have some hotshot, contest-flying, badge-covered, amateur administrator
screw up what little is left of our organization. Intrepid flyer or not, I
wish...

Borgelt B50 Wiring Diagram? by
JohnDeRosa
I am helping a friend wire an old Borgelt V50. It appears that the only diagram for what goes where on the rear terminals is on the top of the housing. Unforfuntately, this diagram has been obliterated by someone.
The manual doesn't have a wiring diagram. It doesn't even say much of anything...

Help estimating altitude without altimeter? by
tstock
Hi, as a beginner I am still a little rough at this. I've done 3
successful patterns with no altimeter, but today I failed one
miserably with my instructor. There were two issues which threw me
off. 1) we towed higher than the past attempts, and 2) instead of
entering the pattern at a familiar...

Making a Glider Easier to See in the Air by
ContestID67
I live in a fairly busy area, airplane wise. Just last weekend I
spotted a single engine plane coming more or less straight at me at my
altitude. I quickly banked to 1) get out of the way and 2) be more
visible to the approaching airplane. I didn't notice any reaction so I
don't know if he saw...

The Audit, the board, the by-laws by
Frank Reid
There is still some confusion on the subject of the
audit, or lack thereof, and the board. The answer
given by the Excom to the members in their first statement
was not correct. That is 'the board decided .....'.
Then the attempted clarification was also not clear.
So let me state it very...

off from.
A little background, the entire days operation was operating from
runway 18. His...

The Yellow Triangle by
Nicholas Kennedy
On many German gliders on the ASI is a yellow triangle.
This Yelloe Triangle on my ASw 20 and my LS3a is the factory recommended approach airspeed. This speed is 49 knots.
This has bothered me for a long time now, I think the factory did alot of pilots a disservice by putting this, to me anyway,...

Possible future legal problems with "SOARING" by

Tall Timber, really caught my attention:...
