Elevation info for Garmin Glide Ratio functionality by
Jack Glendening
I've just upgraded from a Garmin 12XL to a GPSmap60csx GPS. That has

Fine scratches on wing gel coat by
Discus 44
I have noticed some fine scratches on the top of my wing surface that
are diagonal across the chord in opposing pattern. Can anyone explain
if there is an aerodynamic reason for having these scratches remaining
on the surface?

1) I am commercial/instrument rated with somewhere north of 1000 ASEL
and a few ASES landings in my logbook. I am _programmed_ to flare.
:-) To not flare is very hard for me.
2) The Blanik AFM...

Soaring sites in Palm Springs area by
Dave Kuchenbecker
I am planning a trip to Palm Springs to get some sun. I would like to
do some flying while there. Any thoughts on commercial ops in the
area where I could rent a single place.
Thanks
Dave

Frank[_12_]
In response to a question from Leo Buckley about the details of SPOT
operation, I spent some quality time with a SPOT customer service guy,
and got some very interesting info about the new SPOT 2 tracker.
With the old SPOT 1 devices, if you have it in the recommended
tracking mode while flying,...

Spot Landing Competition Rules by
gliderpilotGR

I would be grateful for advice on organising a Spot Landing Competion.
things like scoring / penalties, use of ground markers or "fences". Ideally someone might offer a complete set of contest rules.
Local glider community is interested in a time management / spot landing competition...

ClearNav vs. LX 9000 by
Mitch Polinsky
I searched for a comparison on the rec.aviation.soaring site for a
comparison between ClearNav and an LX 9000, but didn't find anything
directly comparing the two (I apologize if I somehow missed it). I'm
finalizing plans for a panel for a new glider and would be grateful
for any advice from users...
