Where to live with soaring in mind? by
tienshanman
I would appreciates some suggestions…..I am looking for the ideal place to live in the US – for soaring (I have not told my wife how massively weighted this particular criterion is!). I am overseas now and more than likely we will return to the US this summer. I have spent hours on the net...

Sean Fidler - US Team Captain by
Kevin Christner
Inquiring minds what to know if and by whom Sean Fidler was asked to be the US Team Captain.
The US Team code of conduct states the following:
13.1.5 Treatment. Fair, considerate, courteous treatment of Team Management, Team Volunteers, and members of the public.
I think we can all agree that...

AoA keep it going! by
fred
In my early hours of being instructed, not one went by without stall
and spin practice. They also taught me to look out of the window.
Maybe I've done a thousand or more turns before I found myself in a
spin that I did not intend to happen. I was in an HP11, over a ridge,
with a 1-26 out climbing...

Can't buy them all, choosing between ASW19 vs LS1 vs PIK20 by
PAGA
Hi all,
After a long break from gliders, last year I moved close to an airfield and resumed flying at the local soaring club on Blanik metal 2-seaters. While this is always a lot of fun I am tempted to finally get my own one-seater and start practice longer flights, with slightly better...

Lumbar support ideas? by
noel.wade
All -
For the third year in a row I've somehow managed to injure my back
early in the season (base of the spine/sciatic nerve). I'm beginning
to suspect its not my day-job or rigging my ship (I have a one-man
rigger); but rather my flying and seating position in the cockpit
(DG-300). Short...

winglets by
bagmaker
OK, I can get the theory (OR can I?) with winglets to reduce wingtip vortices.
Surely the best direction for the tip is DOWN!, I understand this may be difficult for actually making, especially with gliders and groundloops, aesthetics, etc, but can someone explain why they are pointing...

PowerFLARM Mode S question by
kirk.stant
PowerFLARM is supposed to have the capability to detect and display
Mode S 1090ES position data on its display. How many aircraft
(Airliners, bizjets?) currently send out 1090ES data?
This is for the US, of course.

iPhone 6 Plus and iGlide by
jfitch
Since the board seems kind of dead today (everyone getting their gliders ready for the season?) I will weigh in with a brief review of this combo. I like iGlide, which seems quite modern compared to the other commercial offerings and it pairs well with the Butterfly/Air variometer. Last year I was...

Calculating Headwind/Tailwind component by
Ramy
Most flight computers nowadays calculate wind vector, but only few calculate headwind/tailwind component, which, in my opinion, is almost equally important, since it tells you if your glide over terrain/final glide is going to suffer or benefit from the wind component, as well as help you estimate...

Winglet Alternative? by
mike fadden
Has anyone seen the winglet alternative that is a slotted tube that
goes on the wing tip? I can't remember the name (Minix?) or what site
I saw it on. I believe its being tested in France and the designer
made pretty impressive claims. I was wondering what you winglet
designers think.
