Aft CG limit(s) by
Andy Durbin
Recent threads that discussed handling and performance have referred
to the aft cg limit, perhaps implying that there is a fixed aft limit.
For the ASW-19b and the ASW-28, the gliders I have most recent
experience in, the aft cg limit moves forward as the gross weight
increases. I assume this is...

Flaps and V-Tails of Death by
Wallace Berry
Hi all,
I'm here to report that I cheated death and survived a flight in a
glider with the dreaded "Landing Flaps and V-Tails of Death". Jim Harper
graciously allowed me to fly his beautiful HP-16. What's an HP-16 you
say? Well, looks to be just like the HP-18 (or I should say the HP-18 is
just...

IGC APproval for GPS with WAAS by
Ivan Kahn
I was wondering if any of the manufacturers are considering submitting for
IGC approval a GPS WAAS system that does not incorporate a barograph? Seems
to me that such system is far more accurate then those that incorporate a
barograph, and should also never need calibration.

Looking for brush/trim for flap/spoiler handle slots by
John
My original brush-like trim that 'covers' the slots inside the cockpit of my
LS-6 are worn down and I'd like to replace them.
Anyone know of a source for these "brushes"?
They're black nylon, about 3/4 inch wide, and serve to close the slots the
controls exit from, yet still allow their...

Mylar "form 1" vs "form 2" by
John
What's the difference in the shapes of these mylars.
My manual calls for different "forms" depending on where the mylar seal
is located.....ie top vs bottom of wing.
How often should one replace mylar seals on the wings?
Is this judgement based on hours flown or just time since it was...

Premium 3M (483) Poly Tape by
Hi all,
I have received 10 rolls of this tape from a tape distributor going out of
business. The problem is that it's two inch wide not the usual 1 inch. It's
the same stuff indicated below that Wings and Wheels sells.
If anyone knows of a place or that can do this themselves and split this
into...

glider transportation by
TJ
Hi,
I live on the west coast and am considering buying
a glider on the east coast. This means a problem
of transporting the glider from the east coast to the west.
Two possibilities:
(1) I go get it. This means that I could pull your glider to
the east coast for you. Anyone need a glider...

Taking a Glider from the US to NZ,,,, by
TomnKeyLargo
What are the entry requirements and how long may the glider stay in NZ? Any
costs for importing a US glider to NZ? Thanks, Tom # 711.

Turbojets again by
tango4
http://www.glider.dk/main_news_show.asp?idx=371
A pair of model turbines screwed on to a Blanik. I picked this up off a
Danish site so I have little idea what the text really says. From the
pictures I see a small, low drag installation. Perfect for fitting as a sort
of modern day 'Top' engine.

Why does PW-5 get no respect? by
ISoar
Newbie here. I ran across a joke that said the market value for a
used PW-5 was based entirely on what the instruments and trailer were
worth. It appears this issue was beaten to death at one time, but I'm
curious for a paragraph or two explanation of why the ship gets no
respect.
Thanks

Your U.S. Team Committee (USTC) will be proposing to the
SSA Board of Directors a number of changes to the "SSA US
Soaring Team Selection Policy" at their winter meeting in

changes by December 31, 2003.

Thin flexible solar panels by
Eric Greenwell
I've come across some thin (0.008 inches), flexible solar panels that
look like they'd be ideal for gliders. These are the PowerFilm 7.2V
100mA ($30) units, with and without adhesive on the back:
http://store.sundancesolar.com/pow72v100maf1.html
So, $120 would buy me 4 panels, which would give me...

slipping in turns by
John Firth
A comment in addition to my previous about keeping the ailerons neutral
for min. speed. Since adding winglets to my RHJ-8 (2S HP 14)
the tufts showed how important it is to keep the winglet flow attached.
A bit of slip easily stalls the inner winglet, negating it's benefit.
