A-6 Radar Display? by
Nick Coleman
Just started re-reading Coont's Flight of the Intruder, and his
description of the capabilities of the terrain radar is interesting.
Early in the book he describes a training flight through canyons and
valleys in IMC, using the radar for avoidance.
I'm curious what the BN would actually see in...

A-7 Corsair Info needed by
[email protected]
When I visited Iwakuni in '85 (was stationed there from '73-'76),
there
was an entire A-7 squadron there, billed as a "spare" for the Midway,
or
whichever other boat was doing IO duty at the time. Don't recall too
much
else of what I learned in a 15 minute conversation with one of...

A6 Intruder----Question? by
Kurt {:{
Hi,
-
I was to an air show awhile back. I was inspecting a Navy A6 Intruder. I
caught the exhaust end of the tail pipe and noticed a circumference of
mesh "feathers" on the inner ID, that honestly looked like dragonfly
wings, gossamer in texture. I wonder what the function of this is, what
the...

AAM targeting... by
Lynn in StLou
Am I correct in saying that our aircraft do not have helmet
mounted sighting system ala the MiG-29? As I understand the
MiG system, if the pilot can see the enemy, he can launch
and be reasonably sure of a kill. AIUI, our system,
especially for I/R AAM, is more limited in off the nose
capability. ...

Accidents will happen by

Around summer 1989, a three-foot-long practice bomb was accidentally
dislodged from a Navy fighter je that was on a training mission. The
wayward ordnance, which was inert, came to rest in the backyard of
William Larsen's Middleburg, FL, home. The bomb gouged a foot-deep
crater in the earth, but,...

Action Stations PBEM Anyone? by
Dan Knaus
Hi All,
Finally got my Action Stations working - all other .exe files but
battle.exe ran fine, so I reloaded it from the disk and I'm back in
business. Anyway, I'm re-interested in this game and wondering if
anyone out there would like to give PBEM a shot?

Additional Information on Fulton Recovery System by

I normally try to avoid crossposting, but am sending
this to three related and relevant newsgroups.
(and plan on later sending most of it, to 3 others)
Not very long ago on one of these groups, I read an
interesting discussion on the Fulton STAR System.
Background - the Fulton system was an...

Advice To Aspiring Military Pilots by

While mucking about the web today I chanced upon Stephen Coonts' web site.
There's a good page there in which Coonts talks about what it takes to
become and succeed as a military aviator. Since RAMN gets occasional
questions on this subject, here's a link to his...

Aerial Bombardment of Iran would Eclipse 'Shock and Awe' of 2003 by
AirRaid
"Military action has been in planning since before the wars with
Afghanistan and Iraq. This could come in any one of three forms or
some combination of them: A US attack by air power alone, a ground
invasion as in the 1991 and 2003 attacks on Iraq, or the encouragement
of an Israeli attack.
