Two new IGC-approvals for GPS recorders by Ian Strachan
I am pleased to announce IGC-approval of two new types of GNSS Flight Recorder, with effect from 31 August 2008. This follows test and evaluation by the IGC GNSS Flight Recorder Approval Committee (GFAC) in accordance with Annex B to the Sporting Code and the Specification for IGC-approved GNSS...

Jaxida covers by Edward Winchester[_2_]
Some of you may remember when a few years ago I crashed my LAK-12. I really miss that glider. I used this group to sell the trailer successfully. Now, in cleaning up all things LAK-12, I have a complete set of Jaxida Covers for the LAK-12. They have never been used, and kept in the duffel bags...

Oxygen Tank for Schleicher ASW 27 or 28 by Discus 44[_2_]
I am looking for a replacement Qxygen cylinder for my ASW 28. It is the weird one almost the same size as a "D" bottle but smaller in diameter 4.125 inches and 16.5 inches long. Mine is stamped DOT-3AA2015 REE16.6 Which is the cubic ft capacity.

Perlan 2 flying now - Use the virtual cockpit by Eric Greenwell[_4_]
Perlan 2 has launched with weak wave. You can follow near real time at this Virtual Cockpit link, fed by (I assume) the telemetry system. http://perlanproject.cloud/VirtualCockpit.html You can see the pictures and read the comments about the previous wave flight (Sep. 13) on the...

Experimental question by Wade G
I recently bought an experimental DG-303. I am trying to get the new op limitations done ASAP while the season is ticking away. The FAA is not at the pace of my desire to get this thing up! My question: I've heard that a buyer might be able to fly using the previous limitations and a/w for 30 days...

How well polished does a glider need to be? by Dan G
I'm crewing this season, and no doubt my pilot will be expecting me out at 7am with Mer in hand. My question is (and I'm sure it's been debated before, I did search, but want fresh input) how worthwhile is polishing? I can understand keeping the fuselage as slippery as possible to reduce skin...

Flash flood Alamogordo, NM # 711 reporting by [email protected]
Marble canyon, which is up behind my home, got hit with 5-8 inches of rain and hail in less that an hour. A wall of water came out of the canyon, and took out numerous homes. It happened in a very short time frame. Cars were floating down the street, with people still in them. The dry raven that...

I see BLIPMAP is back up and you can contribute now by Brian Choate
BLIPMAP is back up again. I didn’t realize how much I was dependent on it until it was gone! This year I only flew on the good days, I have had fantastic flights and have not landed out once! Not to mention no retrieve costs. Thanks to DR. Jack and BLIPMAP! Dr. Jack has invested thousands of his...

Glider pilot tries & dies (flying under a bridge) by Karen
As kids we watched in awe, the ag pilots flying under the power lines. Decided not to try it in a SGS 2-22 when we saw him then pull up steep to miss the tall fence on the other side of the road, do a wing-over, then repeat it in the opposite direction. Over-confidence can kill you even when you...

The Future of the Standard Class by charlie foxtrot
Starting next year, the standard class will no longer compete along side of the 15m, 18m & open classes at the world chamionships. Is this simply a logistical solution to having too many gliders at one competition, or is this the beginning of the end of the standard class? Chris Fleming...

Schemp-Hirth cable routing to cg hook by Stewart Kissel
I have a binding cable that prevents my tost from closing completely. The spring is still strong, but the hook can only be pulled back manually with some force. The seat pan and glassed over cover for the Tost is off. It appears that the cable runs up behind the panel to a pully? Anyone with...

Soaring Hell - Arizona by Michael Stringfellow
I'm not going to submit anywhere in Arizona as a candidate for "Best Soaring Site". At least down here in the Phoenix area, we can only soar reliably for about nine months of the year. Soaring conditions are a bit spotty from November through January (we only made about 100 miles cross-country...
