boulder mid-air by None[_2_]
The rules say that an aircraft towing or re-fueling has the right-of- way over all other powered aircraft. Please point out to critics of glider operations that every pilot is taught this rule before flying solo and that this rule is on the written test he or she must take before getting a license.

Kawa leading.....again. by [email protected]
Kawa is leading the two seat 20 meter class at his second world championship in three weeks. Of course he won 15 meter at the first one. There is no doubt he’s the greatest....ever.

Today i had my first flight with it but after landing and shutting off the device just like I always have . When I got home there was NO flight file to transfer to OCL ! Now i did the upgrade...

Beringer Disc Brake Kit for Schemm-Hirth gliders - experience and effectiveness? by WaltWX[_2_]
Can anyone recommend the Beringer disc brake kit for Ventus, Discus or Schemmp-Hirth gliders? I'm seriously considering retrofitting my D2A after a nearly disastrous run off the runway up at Ely ... partially due to fading brake (plenty of pilot error problems too...) I'm especially interested in...

XCSoar and Wind by Dan Marotta
Hello XCSoar users. I love my XCSoar/Streak combo in my glider and I installed a second Streak in the Pipistrel Sinus. In the Sinus there is no computer/GPS to feed the Streak and so the XCSoar relies on the internal GPS of the Streak. With the solo setup, I never see winds. I've flown...

Do trailers with coil springs and shock absorbers sway at higher speeds? by son_of_flubber
My Avionic trailer has leaf springs and no shocks and the rhythmic ass end sway that develops at higher speeds encourages me to keep the top speed at 60-65 mph. That speed is just fine with me except when interstate traffic if flying by at 80 mph. In that case I feel that I'm something of a...

Janus 2-seat glider as a club glider? by K_Miller
I am interested in learning if other soaring clubs have a Janus 2-seat glider in their fleet, which model they have, its suitability as a club ship and whether they would recommend one to a club that was looking for a 2-seat cross country trainer. If you have other personal experience in the Janus,...

Avoid head-on collision? Forward facing LED strobe? by son_of_flubber
So how many of us have flown along close to cloudbase under a cloud street, and suddenly seen another glider pass us on the opposite heading? It's obviously hard to see a glider that is coming straight at you. So what about a narrow beam LED strobe aligned with the glide path vector... would the...

Flight Recorder for SSA Badges by Carl6703[_2_]
I would like to retire our old Barographs and replace them with a portable Flight Recorder that could be rented to candidates for SSA badges. Does anyone have any suggestions for a portable flight recorder which would meet the badge requirements? Thanks. Carl Baxter Turf Soaring

Thermal mapping by John
Here is a thought: Was in the back yard making thousands of soap bubbles (Mr. Bubbles) for the baby. Slight breeze. Clearly could tell the entire airflow pattern in the back yard....even a little ridge lift over the glider trailer! Wonder if you could add a soap bubble machine to a sailplane? ...

Double Release Failure by ZZ
It is likely that the probability of an ACTUAL double release failure on tow is what ever positive number is closest to zero. Of course that doesn't mean that Mr.Murphy can't serve one of these up. I would be interested in hearing any accounts of actual, non-instructor induced double release...

Start Anywhere by [email protected]
I was reviewing some contest flights from 2008 and it occurred to me that there hadn't been a thorough review of people's experience with the new "start anywhere" rule - which measures distance on the first leg from a start from anywhere along the boundries of the start cylinder. I general I...

Adding an airplane rating to private pilot glider by gmcd05
Does anyone know what the requirements are to add a private pilot airplane rating if you already have a private pilot glider? I know the training requirements would be reduced for an airplane pilot transitioning to glider but I dont know how it works going the other way.... Does anyone have info...

no instrument flight by Robert Bruce
It might an old message, but I ran across it and would encourage instructors and those who haven't to at least experience two flights with no reference to instruments, at least to pattern altitude. Learn to use the wind noise and pitch attitude on a glider you know well. One of the more rewarding...

Newbie seeking advice by .
I went for a ride in a glider many years ago and was immediately taken with the whole experience. I have always wanted to fly and now have the time to do it as I am finished with my skydiving career. Before I sell my rigs I wanted to ask a question. Do any of you wear pilot rigs? Before I...

Bipolar/Schizoaffective Disorder and Soaring by DL152279546231
I am wondering how many others suffer from a mental disorder such as Bipolar or Schizoaffective disorder seek out soaring because of it's lack of medical certification requirements. Also, I am wondering what options there are to taking medications which state, 'to avoid heatstroke it is important...
