AT&T Cell Phones don't work at Hobbs by
Bill Higdon
Reb Byrne wrote:
My Cingular phone does work at Hobbs. There is a problem in town of caller
ID not working and your calls go out as having the number blocked (can be a
problem if calling someone who won't accept those calls). Once you get out
of town it seems to work just fine.

Inexpensive Crew GPS by
Bill Hoadley
Hello,
I am interested in purchasing an inexpensive handheld GPS for crew use
during retrieves. Any suggestions on units that are easy to use for a
first time user (simple for the crew), and easily accept Lat/Longs to
find a glider out in the boondocks would be appreciated. Sources for

Kevin Christner's question about unplanned releases from tow... by
Bill Nockles
Hello Ken,
In 51 years of soring I have had two unplanned terminations from a tow.
Both took place in the 70's.
In 1973 while on tow in a Std Libelle the tow rope quietly released from
the nose hook (Tost). I had done nothing to precipitate this release ...no
hand on the release, no banging the...

SSA Membership by
Bill Staley
I read on the website that last year the SSA folks in Hobbs hand
stuffed 10,000 mailers that were sent to potential members. And, that
the results were less that satisfactory to them. This seems to me to
me a very significant effort by a very small number of already
overworked people.
We all...

Volkslogger flight log problem by

recorded a flight log. I have the Volkslogger driving an SN-10 – the
SN-10 has a flight log. I cleared the Volkslogger memory before both
flights. I am using SeeYou to download the logs. The prgm shows a
connection but doesn't show...

SparrowHawk Test Flight Facts by
Bill Thar
David Lawrence's article in the August issue of Soaring magazine "Lord if
You're Up There." teaches us a lesson about the need to be thorough and
prepared whenever we fly. The accident is also a reminder of what can happen
when an aircraft is flown faster than it is designed to fly. But there...

Will it ever make it to the podiums?

Tow position, posting and the truth by
Bill Wallace
Mark Boyd from first post:
So for my flight review in Avenal yesterday, we did a bunch
of slack line corrections. We did them during one tow,
but broke the rope. 150' of rope ($12), two schweizer rings ($20),
one tost ring ($35), a carabiner (sp?), two half-wiffle...
