DIY Flight-Computer by
Kilo-Bravo
A group of people within the Academic-Glider section of the Technical University of Graz/Austria has designed a rather spectacular Flight-Computer, certainly a fine addition to any sailplane's panel too.
Best of all, the Glider-Nav-Computer can be build at home by DIY to material-costs of approx...

Wing pin grease by
[email protected]
I have a v2Cx with 4 lift pins where the wings connect to the fuselage.
These get cleaned and greased with white grease on each assembly.
I'm noticing that the grease under the lift bearings gets squeezed out in flight. (Looks like maybe metal to metal contact.)
Is there a preferred grease to...

Mountain High Cannula/Mask? by
John McLaughlin
Does everyone stick to the 18k limit for the cannula and 25k for the mask,
or are these limits considered advisory only?

Tinted canopies by
Gerry Simpson
What has been the experience among the readers of this sight with respect to colorless or blue tinted canopies and perception changes. For example, do haze domes look essentially the same? Do crops and ground features appear altered? It was conveyed to me from a reasonably knowledgeable source that...

RICO VACS - is the schematic available anywhere? by
[email protected]
I liked the subtle ticking noise of ye olde RICO VACS vario I had in the HP-14. And it was very good at pointing out weak lift. Alas that relic from the 1970s stopped working some time circa 2000. I sent it to its maker and he fixed it, but it later failed again, as has another unit I scrounged...

Advertising for tow pilots by
[email protected]
like many clubs, we have troubles finding enough tow pilots. We have a Pawnee tow plane so we need to find the ever fewer pilots that are tailwheel qualified, and meet the insurance minimums. The other big issue is finding the candidate pilots that are qualified and interested in spending their...

Amazing soaring facts? by
Doug Easton
Looking for some help from the group... I'm putting together a presentation
(might be overhead viewgraphs and/or a series of posters) for the general
public on soaring and I want to catch their interest and imagination. For
instances might be: the world altitude record for a glider is close...

want to read about it.
I put two new articles on my webpage

"Team flying." Pilot to pilot radio communication will be allowed at

Aviation Oxygen Locations in Chicago Area? by
ContestID67[_2_]
Anyone have an address in the Chicago area to obtain aviation grade
oxygen? I have a friend who is having a heck of a time finding it.
You would think that some of the smaller airports handling executive
jets would have it.
Thanks, John

Jose Auil, a pilot flying a Discus BT out of the Vitacura airport in
Santiago, Chile, went missing over the Andes on Sunday afternoon. An
intensive search was carried out for three days and this morning the
wreck was found in the mountains, with the cabin intact. There was a

SSA Website by
Chris OCallaghan
Just sent a note to Dennis to voice my disappointment with the current
SSA website. I preferred less splash and more functionality (and
reliability). It has been several months since the switch over, and
I'm still unable to access the photos section, one of my favorites.
Today was the tipping point...
