King KT-78 Transponder by
Tony Condon[_2_]
King made a version of their KT-76 Transponder with only 150 watts of power
and called it the -78. Im curious if anyone has ever tried to use one of
these in a glider. If so, what sort of power draw did you experience?
Thanks!

Looking for Towball across the midwest by
Tony Condon[_2_]
Well, I did it. I can't help myself. After hanging out with the VSA guys
all last weekend, Leah decided she needs to start flying gliders, and Dave
Schuur helped convince her that that Cherokee in Lawrenceville would be
great for her. So we're going to get it.
I'm looking for a towball headed...

Cherokee on OLC by
Tony Condon[_2_]
Steve Leonard was brave enough to make a public offering here on RAS that
he would loan me a logger. We are out in Ulysses this weekend for a
little soaring camp and got a late start today.
It was pretty neat having the cambridge on board. I can see why you guys
like this stuff, maybe I'll...

Cherokee II out and about by
Tony Condon[_2_]
I posted this on a few other aviation forums. Got the Cherokee out into
some of those booming kansas thermals today. I didnt think the stats for
the trip were too shabby for a 23:1 glider flying most of the flight below
2500 AGL.
Weather was forecast to be decent, although there was a strong...

Does anyone know of any glider operations on the island? A friend is

Trailer Paint Scheme by
Tony Condon[_2_]
Im in the process of reskinning the trailer for the Cherokee and am nearly
ready to start riveting aluminum. I plan to paint it a nice white to help
avoid cooking my glider. Im thinking that a plain white trailer would be
boring, what should I paint on it? A few suggestions were a side view...

Soaring Aids Variometer by
Tony Condon[_2_]
Tim -
Easy enough I suppose. when I first got the Cherokee it had an old
Crossfeld electric vario in it. the audio part didnt work. Either the
flask or the battery was hooked up backwards and when I was in lift it
showed down and when I was in sink it showed lift. Also, the scale was
way off. ...

Soaring Aids Variometer by
Tony Condon[_2_]
I have an old Soaring Aids variometer that I am installing in the Cherokee.
It has ports on the back for static/TE and capacity flasks. They are not
labeled. One is red and the other is green. Any ideas on which is which?
Thanks!

IVSM 2009 Photos by
Tony Condon[_2_]
I have returned from my weekend at IVSM 2009. What a blast. I really
enjoyed flying off Harris Hill and could've stared at the beautiful
gliders and visited with the pilots for days and days. I did manage to
get a couple good soaring flights in, one hour in the ASK-13 and an hour
and 45 minutes...

Trailer Suspension by
Tony Condon[_2_]
I'm considering replacing the axle/suspension for the trailer on the
Cherokee. Reskinning the trailer after windstorm damage has devolved into
rebuilding the trailer. I'm sure you all know how that goes.
I've been looking at the Rubber Torsional axles and I'm curious what the
opinion of the...

Opening weekend for the Cherokee by
Tony Condon[_2_]
I've been slow to get airborne this year. I moved to Wichita in Feb. and
the glider came down at the end of March. I managed to break the canopy
while doing the annual so first thing was to put new polycarbonate (Lexan)
on the frame. That turned out well, then I decided it was time for a...

Spectra winching question by
Tony V
We (Greater Boston Soaring Club) had our first Spectra "glider flinging"
session today and were surprised that we saw no altitude improvement
after switching from steel cable. The winds were not favorable and our
heights may improve in time. .... But that's not the question.
We have the option...
