experimental to standard certificate by
shkdriver
Anyone ever purchase a used glider with an experimental certificate, say for example, an ASW 19b, and change to a standard certificate?
I understand that some gliders were imported and flown as experimental such as jantars, due to govermental restrictions on reciprocal airworthiness...

The Becker 3200 com radio suddenly failed. Was working fine and on the next flight nothing after starting up the engine. Will not power up. I verified that it is...

Tow planes and ADS-B Out by
Larry Ruggiero
I realize our operational environments are varied, but what’s the trend for equipping tow planes with ADS-B out? The broad requirement distilled down is that it’s “required in airspace where transponders are required,” which for us is pretty rare. There are relatively easy/cheap (by...

Towrope tensions....Part II by
Retting
Looking for towrope tensions information applied during a typical AERO tow. Singles and twins up to 600kg/ 1500#.
Perhaps testing was done back in the 60’s before Al Gore invented the internet. Prefer some numbers over methods of achieving.
The Uganda Information Award is still in play .......

Soaring in or around Maidenhead UK by
John Huthmaker
I am heading to England this afternoon for work. I'll be staying in Maidenhead for about a week. If I have any free time, it would be awesome to get in the air. Can anyone recommend a place I could get some glider time in that would be relatively nearby?

Akaflieg Karlsruhe AK-X by
Jonathan St. Cloud
Has anyone seen the Akaflieg Karlsruhe AK-X photos. They have flown a scale model and it looks very interesting. Wonder how it will compare to "traditional designs"? If it proformed as well or better than moe traditional design I would purchase one.

Diamond Distance/Kowbell by
Tony[_5_]
RAS,
Since many of you have been long-time followers of my free distance attempts (that's you, Gapa Geezer), I felt compelled to report on last weekends Kansas Kowbell Klassic. Saturday was the day and there were 4 of us at the field to vie for the Kowbell. Me in Kate the Cirrus, Jerry in his...

USA - Private Pilot glider tow compensation by
Tony[_5_]
I just came across this letter on another forum. I think we just
discussed this but it turns out that compensation is compensation and
the FAA is not in the business of delineating between "logging time"
compensation and "money"...

Ugly Glider by
Mike125
I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder but the Slngsby T-53B
listed for sale on W&W has to be one of the homliest gliders I've ever
seen. Still outperforms the slightly less ugly 2-33 (which I'll likely
be flying soon), though.

Towing glider trailers with a VW Jetta Wagon? by
Allan[_2_]
I have one and I'm seriously thinking about putting a hitch on it to
(among other things) tow glider trailers with.
Anyone out there doing it?
What hitch do you have?
Which engine? I have the 1.9 TDI, which I think has plenty of power
for it...

Soaring safaris by
flying_monkey
OK, it's the time of year to talk about soaring instead of doing it
here in the Northeast, so I'll ask this question. If a person was just
bursting to go soaring this time of year or up to the early spring,
maybe get some XC or badge legs, where would be the ideal place to go?
If it's not all the...

Cobra Cosmetics II: How to Refinish? by
[email protected]
An amazing (to me) amount of interest in refreshing faded vinyl trim
strips indicates pilots are serious about making their rides
look good. But what about the trailer itself? My 14-year-old glass-top
Cobra has a few cracks, nicks, etc., that will require work this
winter. Matching the existing...

Parachute repack questions by
Bill Daniels
I'm going to watch my parachute get repacked this evening. The local Master
Rigger is teaching a rigging class and I'm invited to watch him repack my
'chute in front of the class.
Can I ask him any questions for r.a.s.?

Be ready for the worst! by
Ed Byars
Be ready for the worst:
I totaled my ASW-28 last summer. The next day while I was "out of it" in the
hospital, the Feds (FAA-FISDO not the NTSB {because I didn't get killed I
guess}) inspected the damaged glider and removed all paperwork and my
smashed PDA. A few weeks later they returned all by...

Property Tax on gliders in California? by
Mark Navarre
Have received a letter from the tax assessor requesting location and value info
on my glider for the purpose of property tax assessment. I am curious, why
now? Since I have owned the glider almost 5 years already, I wonder if it took
that long for the County/State to catch up on the paperwork.
The...
