Denver Terminal Area Chart Question - BVR vor/dme by
Robert Easton
Does anybody know why on the Denver Terminal Area Chart, the Byers (BVR
113.5) vor/dme facility is charted without the compass ring that are on most
vortacs? It's the only one I've seen charted like this. Byers is located
33NM on the 090 radial of DVV (the Denver International Vortac).
Thanks,...

Another ADIZ violation? by
Wiz
All:
I heard a lot of air activity over my Washington, DC home today, and
was told later by a friend that an 84-year-old pilot had a total
electrical failure on the way from Stafford, VA (KRMN), where
maintenance was being performed on his plane. According to my friend,
the pilot landed at Indian...

Impossible to ditch in a field (almost) by
mindenpilot
I live out West, where there are hundreds of miles of empty space in every
direction. When flight planning, I often say, "I can ditch in that dry lake
bed, or that field, or if I have to, on that road."
In a couple of weeks, I'm travelling to North Carolina to visit my brother
for the holidays. ...

This is how you do USA air defense, Bush and Cheney shmucks:
"About 130 miles south of Sea-Tac, two F-15C jets of 142nd Fighter Wing, on alert round-the-clock to defend an area between Northern California and the San Juan Islands, took off.

Tinker Flying Club by
Jester
Hello all,
I have heard rumors in the past that Tinker Air Force Base (OKC)
had a flying club. I have looked in the base newspaper, and the tinker
homepage with no luck. I have also DAGS. Anyone know if one is still in
exsistence, or even fly with them. I heard they may be based out...

Emergency by
Dan Luke
It was the 3rd leg of an Angel Flight and I wasn't even supposed to be
flying it. I'd already flown the second leg from Natchez, MS to
Monroeville, AL, but the 3rd leg pilot had mysteriously failed to show--no
call, no nothin'. It was late, I was tired and I was mad. I had two pax
aboard.
We...

Seeking opinion on Penn Yan SuperHawk O-360 by
Zippity
Hi,
Our C172 O-320 is well over TBO and needs new cylinders. We are
thinking we might just bite the bullet and get a new engine at this
stage.
The Penn Yan Aero SuperHawk STC looks like a good option since it
would give us 180 HP - a nice extra safety margin for our short strip.
Has anyone here...

Seaplane Rating Add-On and Seaplane Rental by
Peter Bauer
Hi Group,
i have a question concerning a seaplane rating add-on to a Private
Certificate ASEL.
I'm interested in the ASES-Add-On to my Certificate, but what if i'd
like to rent a seaplane after the Rating Add-On, is this possible
directly after doing it or do i've to get experience with a CFI...

We lost a good one.... by

On Tuesday, May 17 Robert Bosley was murdered by an intruder who broke
into his home. Bob was a good friend of mine. I was also his CFI. At
the exact time we were scheduled to fly together on Saturday, I will
instead be attending his funeral. He was a good man, a good father and

Is a "Go Around" an unfamiliar manoeuvre to a student pilot? by
David Wright[_2_]
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/essex/6294778.stm
Interesting that a "Go Around" is considered here as an "unfamiliar
manoeuvre" - and that the pilot was "put in a situation beyond his
experience" - okay he only had 15 hours of flying time and it was only his
second solo, but I was doing...

Making the OSH Arrival Safer by

As many of you know, this was our 24th consecutive Airventure -- and
our 8th flying in. I've seen the RIPON/FISK arrival from all angles,
both from the ground and in the air, and have seen pretty much
everything that could be thrown at us. Although it's always tense,
due to the proximity of...

wanted: hangar door tips by

Our EAA chapter had a 40' hangar door that split in the middle and
folded sideways (each half). The ends were hinged and the center had
a single roller that ran in a track above. The bottom was not
attached in any way and just hung. It was held closed and open with
large steel pins that dropped...

Practicing SFLs with a constant speed prop - how? by
Ed
I'm fairly new to GA after a 19 year break flying jets. I routinely
fly a single engine experimental with a constant speed prop mounted on
a Lycoming IO-360.
2 QUESTIONS:
1. What's the proper setup to simulate the way the plane would glide
in case of an engine failure? I'm looking for pitch...
