FCC License? by
ContestID67[_2_]
Maybe this has come up before, if so I appologize. I know that we
have had a thread on the need for an airport to have an FCC license.
This came up when one of the gliderports was fined for having an
expired license. This was useful, and timely, information for other
glider ports.
So there are...

From DrDan Johnson -- a clear essay on how Covid-19 is spread by
danlj
This isn't about soaring, but it would affect our activity at the airfield to read and act on this. It's factual, with examples, and is actionable.

(My son sent me this link. It's an excellent, fact-based description of how it...

Letter to the FAA by
Walt Connelly
Before I send my letter to the FAA I'd like to ask if anyone has ever attempted to get them to see the light and end the use of Schweizer hooks on tow planes here in the land of the free and the home of the brave. It is a well known fact and clearly stated in the SSA/SSF and FAA circulars and...

poor lateral control on a slow tow? by
Doug[_5_]
As an aerodynamicist/flight dynamicist recently re-soloed after 25 years
off, people keep asking me hard questions. One that has come up recently is
why a heavy glider on tow feels horrible, but thermalling in the same glider
at lower speeds is fine? (see also Mike Fox's article on aerotowing...

Best Overall Motorglider available today? by
Nick Kennedy[_3_]
Didn't want to hijack the current FES tread so I thought I'd start a new one.
This topic came up over dinner a couple of weeks ago.
When you add all the following into a pot and stir, whats the "Best"
Say for Western Great Basin flying.
I think it may be the Carat, but I don't know much about...

Future Club Training Gliders by
RN
The current issues with the L-13 Blaniks has our club looking at
alternatives and developing a plan for the future training gliders we
will need.
We would be very interested in other club's experience with other
trainers, and what you are using and planning to use in the future.
Our evaluation...

impressive new vario with FLARM display (when attached to a FLARM), GPS
flight recorder, simple navigation, simple final glide, artificial horizon,
and many other very nice features. You can see details...

SAFE Winch Launching by
Derek Copeland[_2_]
To all my friends in the United States of America.
You may have got the impression from some recent correspondence on this
site that winch launchings is about as risky as bungey jumping or joining
a Kamikaze squadron!
In fact we do many tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of
winch...

Auto-Towing - why is this not more popular? by
Sean Fidler
I had an interesting conversation with a pal about auto-tow glider launching method recently. It seems academic really.
When cost is considered, auto-towing has to be far more affordable than even winching. Maybe $1.50 per tow, max? In aviation, the cost is always critical. Especially in...

What First Glider to own? by
Sparkorama
I'm getting back into the sport after a long hiatus and flying in the Boston area. I'll be putting some winter flying time in and I'm considering buying my first glider once I'm back to comfortable solos and my private license. (Naturally, I won't fly anything until I am competent and ready). Any...

Tow plane ideas by

My glider club is looking into the possibility of a new or upgraded tow plane. We currently have a 160hp supercub, but we have also looked into a rare-as-hens-teeth piper pawnee. As i poke around barnstormers and trade a plane, i have seen ads for a 190hp vans RV-6, a maule 235, a stinson 200+...

How do we inspire pilots to truly take up cross country soaring ? by
Sean Fidler
From another thread recently, thought it might be a good topic to paw around with everyone...
For me, soaring is great fun. I've been doing it consistently for about 5 years now. I've met a bunch of amazing, great, kind people and have learned a tremendous amount about the sport (light years...

Why are so many Stemme S10-VT motorgliders for sale? by

There appear to be a number of Stemme S10-VT motorgliders for sale.
Take the wings and wheels motorglider listings. Usually I might see 1
