Buying a glider, advice on type and prices by
John[_37_]
Returned to gliding after many years and out of touch with types and prices.
Have narrowed it down to one of these types but nothing set in concrete.
ASW20, ASW27, ASW28, Discus, Discus 2 or Ventus.
Was originally looking to buy a lower cost glider but with interest rates being so poor, I am...

Class A airspace by
flying_monkey
OK, I'm puzzled. Maybe you folks can help me understand this. I
looked up the definition of Class A airspace, which is "from 18,000
feet MSL to and including FL600" with few exceptions that don't apply
to the area I'm looking at. I've seen more than one flight posted on
OLC which have a high...

Leading Turns With Rudder by
sisu1a
Hi All,
An SSA 'Master' CFIG I know is perpetually hammering it into his
students that to initiate a turn in a glider, the FIRST thing you do
is feed in rudder. On his 1-5 list of making a turn in a glider, #1 is
rudder (as it's own separate input). While this may be aerodynamically
acceptable...

Warning to users of Zaon PCAS MRX by
Bruno[_2_]
I have debated for a few months if I really should post this or not
but think I should share my experience. First, I LOVE the concept of
the PCAS MRX and I have received nothing short of exceptional customer
service from Zaon. I also would strongly recommend to every pilot to
purchase one of...

Flight review required? by
Terry Pitts
This came up today on askacfi.com.
Most of us have seen someone who used to fly but hasn't for years and decides to take up soaring. These people have no medical, no flight review, and no 90-day currency. They cannot fly whatever it is they used to fly, but with some - maybe a lot - of time and...

Tire Stiffness & trailer swaying by
chris
Several people have had good luck towing a glider with a Subaru
Forester.
I do not know why mine is different.
I just bought a 2004 Forester tried to tow with it. Mine is a
nightmare. It is unstable above 50mph. It has a lot of side to side
sway above 50mph if there is any steering input. It is...

Soaring near Paris, France (Not Texas :-) by
[email protected]
Greetings, all!
My work will take me to Paris, France Nov 3-10, 2004.
Would you please be so kind as to forward me contact information
for a glider club or operation where I might fly as a guest
on the weekend of Nov 6-7, 2004?
I don't need to solo or go cross-country... just a "friend"
ride...

PowerFlarm and ADS-B solution, can we find one? by
Andrzej Kobus
I think it is time to end this back and forth ping pong about restricting the use of PF. We have to agree to disagree and try to come up with a solution that could work for both groups.
Let's try to define some criteria that might be acceptable to all:
1) Should targets be visible on PowerFlarm...

Mountain High EDS O2 system battery by
Bill Daniels
I have an EDS on order and have been reading the manual available from their
web site. It says "USE 9V ALKALINE BATTERY ONLY" in caps for emphasis.
They then go on to say that you can also use and external battery of any
type you choose.
OK, so what would be wrong with using a 9V lithium smoke...

Soaring Community Consumer Warning by
BobD
I like many others understand that the glider community is small, and perhaps getting smaller. In trying to sell my glider, I placed an ad on Tim Mara's Wings and Wheels. He states on his website that he offers this for free to help the community. Or so I thought.
Selling a glider is a difficult...

Hawk Wind by

Has anyone any experience yet with the new Lxnav Hawk Wind program? Sounds superficially to me like it might be an alternative to the Butterfly wind solution which is no longer readily available. And this program seems to avoid some of the Butterfly installation challenges?

Landout Laws by
Charles Petersen
We had two landouts at Seminole yesterday, both in the same field, - a
pasture with cattle and a locked gate. One of the pilots visited a nearby
farmhouse, and spoke with the wife of the property owner asking permission
to enter and a key. She was very nice and called her son. He agreed to
call...

How difficult, Jeb Corliss wing suit stunt? by
John Doe[_4_]
I am not a pilot, but familiar with flight simulation. I know that
gliding limits your ability to control altitude. This is extremely
risky?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFQc7VRJowk&feature=colike
Mainly curious about how difficult that was.
Thanks.
