New 2010 edition of The Glider Flying Handbook by
Tom[_9_]
The FAA originally produced a much-flawed version of this book in
2003. Since this is in the public domain, we produced a vastly
improved, and less expensive version in 2007 titled "The Glider Flying
Handbook" with more than 1,400 editorial changes.
Today, we announce the new, 2010 edition of "The...

Sun Ship Game DVDs on the way to me by
Paul Remde
Hi,
Friday the manufacturer sent me a note stating that the Sun Ship Game DVDs
shipped on Friday. I should receive them on Tuesday (December 15) or
Wednesday (December 16). That is great news! I had been worried that there
would be some delay, but they will be here in time for you to give...

PDA for Moving Map by
brian whatcott
I know it sounds unlikely for someone seeking to put a yoke mount moving
map in his 150 to be seeking advice from a soaring group, but here I am...
I have a whole lot of sales resistance to the Garmin 626's or whatever
of this world, that go for prices in four places of digits.
And the current...

Youth in soaring, and anything by
raulb
I have just seen an unscientific poll on a guitar forum that I found
fascinating, and not because of what it means for playing guitars. In
this poll, almost 41% of those responding were between the ages of 50
and 59. The next largest group, 40-49, is at only 18%.
Like most, if not all of us...

Contest Scoring Formula Breakdown by
Scott Alexander[_2_]
I'm still confused on why it is that if the minimum time of a contest
day is 2:30, then you should plan to be back no later than 2:40. Can
anyone explain the breakdown of the formula to me?
Thanks!

Optimum CG Range by
jcarlyle
There are summaries of Frank Irving’s 1981 OSTIV paper that say he
concluded the optimal CG for a standard class glider is 0.3 to 0.35 of
the Mean Aerodynamic Chord. DG’s web site has an entry that says the
2001 Akaflieg Braunschweig flight test results concluded best glider
results are obtained...

Question: Display symbology for wind vector in flight software by
Tuno
We all know that winds are depicted with a flag type symbol denoting
where the winds are coming *from*, with hash marks encoding the speed.
My question is wrt what we see on computer displays in the cockpit. My
LX7007 displays an arrow showing where the winds are going *to*,
essentially displaying...
