Glider on ESPN at German Gran Prix by [email protected]
Anyone else catch the Glider thermalling low over Hockenheimring yesterday morning, during German Gran Prix free practice 2? Kudos to Paul di Resta of ESPN for knowing and explaining to the viewers how the glider uses the hot air rising up off the the track.

FAA ASIAS/NMACS (Near Mid Air Collision) Summary and Analysis by [email protected]
With all the discussion recently over the incident near ORD, it seemed appropriate to take a look at the official FAA reports of Near Mid Air incidents. The most recent incident is not listed since the most recent freeze date is 31 Aug 2017. 7957 incidents between 1 Jan 1987 to 31 Aug 2017 2988...

Discus CS "Trailer tips" wanted.... by [email protected]
Hi all, Don't need them to fly unless I break the winglets. But they help someone holding the tip rigging and they work for securing the wings in the trailer. If someone has a pattern or a set, willing to buy. Open to suggestions. Thanks, Michael

Dittel FGS50 issue and OAT Indicator by [email protected]
All, I wanted to check if anyone has seen this problem before with a Walter Dittel FGS50: When I power up the display shows 188.888 and will not transmit nor receive. If RAS fails I'll call Peninsula Avionics. Also, I'm looking for a source for 2 glider specific items. 1) The vertical bar...

First Cross-Country of 2004 in Arizona by Michael Stringfellow
On New Year's Day, five Arizona Soaring Association pilots completed cross-country flights from Pleasant Valley airport (home of Turf Soaring). Tony (you can stay but you have to race) Smolder completed 160 km in his Ventus, while Kirk Stant in ASA's Grob 102, Nigel Cripps in his Ventus 2 and Bob...

Cross-Country Definition (USA) by Michael Stringfellow
In filling out my FAA form for my USA pilot's certificate, I note that they have spaces for not only total hours and number of flights but also cross-country flight time. The only problem is that the Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) do not appear to define cross-country flying as it applies to...

Soaring Hell - Arizona by Michael Stringfellow
I'm not going to submit anywhere in Arizona as a candidate for "Best Soaring Site". At least down here in the Phoenix area, we can only soar reliably for about nine months of the year. Soaring conditions are a bit spotty from November through January (we only made about 100 miles cross-country...

Electronic gliding logbook by Michael Schlotter
Version 2 of the popular electronic gliding logbook is now available. It can be downloaded as an OpenOffice.org spreadsheet on the following web site: http://people.bath.ac.uk/enpms/logbook/ The main new features are massively enhanced statistics, and proper logging of powered flying. Enjoy,

Borgelt B40 averager by Michael Schlotter
Does anybody know which sort of signal goes from the Borgelt B40 vario to the external averager? Is it just a voltage or something more complicated? The reason I want to know it is that I'd like to make up my own display instead of buying the original one which is rather bulky. The only alternative...

Cal City Wave Camp a Success! by Michael Reid
I wanted to extend a big thanks to everyone at Cal City and Caracole soaring for a successful wave day on Saturday. The front that pushed through southern California this weekend provided thermals to 9000' and wave as high as 24,000'. And from the sound of things on the radio, Warner Springs had...
