Zimbabwe gliding facilities ? by
not@top-post
Hi,
I used to visit Zimbabwe for gliding facilities.
The best weather is starting now.
There were facilities in Gweru :
Harvey Quail, Paul Cooper ...etc. , and facilities in Harare.
Now when I phone previously valid numbers, they are all
'native' occupants. Have all the 'whites' fled ?

First Arrival at Marfa Wave Camp by
Burt Compton
First Arrival at the Marfa Wave Camp.
A car with a glider trailer slowly approached my "Marfa Gliders" hangar,
thankfully creating very little dust. I thought "here is someone who knows how
to drive on an airport!"
Noticing the New York vehicle tags, I greeted the driver and lady passenger
with...

ASW-19 Moment Arms by
jcarlyle
I would like to be able to calculate the actual CG position for my
ASW-19B, in addition to using Schleicher's cockpit load CG check. I
found some data in the AS Airworthiness Test Report and more in the FAA
Type Certificate Data Sheet, but 3 items are still unknown. Schleicher
does not give any...

Kestrel 19 - T59D Manual by
Bruce Greef
Hi all
If anyone has an electronic version of the T59D manual I would much appreciate a
copy. I do have a paper version came with serial #1771. Unfortunately the
quality is poor and many of the diagrams are illegible (high acid paper + 30 years)
As an aside - I have the standard question - what...

AOPA advocates in-flight mobile phone use by

A recent article highlights the AOPA's advocacy of in-flight cell phone use:

It references this March 2005 article,

Tow Vehicle Woes by
rlovinggood
The discussion on tow vehicles hits home. I have to replace the
trusty Accord with something that has a beefier hitch attachment
point.
I've managed to rip the hitch off from the bottom of the trunk twice
now.
Car: 2000 Honda Accord V6 sedan, 201,000 miles.
Trailer: 2006 Swan, with fiberglass...

C-150/180 tow plane? by
macquistan
Hi,
Does anyone have experience using as a tow plane a C-150 with a 180hp
conversion? There is one on the market for a very good price. It has a
tow hook and a STOL kit already installed. Obviously, a Pawnee would
be the best choice. But, for 15-20K less, two seats and trike gear, it
seems a like...

Looking for articles on flying OLC. Performance optimization. by
Mike N.
I am looking for articles / videos on how to compete well on OLC.
How to get the best scoring, What type of tasks are better than others, or just working in OLC flying in general.
Any links to articles or videos, or whatever would be useful.
For others as well as myself I'm sure.

emailing your log file from an iPhone by
Dave Nadler
These days we're asked to email our log files to
the (often remote) scorer, and PC's are, well, so passe.
It's a drag running around trying to find somebody with a
PC to email the file. And we definitely to NOT want
to delay the scoring.
Some flight computers can send the log file directly from...

More electronic gadgets = lower IQ? by

;-) Perhaps we can infer a correlation between the proliferation of electronic gadgets in our cockpits with the dumbing down of glider pilots? There are Standford University studies that indicate that multitasking can lower your IQ or that "people who are regularly bombarded with several streams...

Resetting Winter Vario to Zero? by
ContestID67
I have a Winter variometer that works great except that at rest it
reads high (+1.5). While that makes me feel good in flight, I'd rather
zero the thing out. The question is how to do this.
I have been told two different ways to do this;
1) Find the zero adjustment - I removed the face plate...

Sports class tasking by

The competition director has his hands full when tasking sports class
because of the vast differences in sailplane types in the class. If he
gives the Nimbus driver a challenging task, the 1-26 driver will have
no chance of completing the task. For this reason Assigned Task is not
allowed. At first...
