500+ KM OLC flight in Florida today by
Nick Kennedy[_3_]
Dave Springford had what looks to me, as a very nice, for 2-22-19, soaring flight in Florida today. 500 Km OLC
Looks like a lot more fun than snowblowing my driveway which is what I did today.
Congratulations!

[email protected]
http://designtekk.com/photos/Karl-KK.jpg
My father-in-law, Karl Kretschmer, passed away peacefully this evening after a number of years of declining health.
Karl was 91 years old and had a wonderful life flying around the world as a career Pan AM flight engineer – he actually lived the golden...

FAKE Letter from OLC - Weird by
JohnDeRosa
I received overnight a "letter" from O.L.C-
. The body of the email says,
"Please see the enclosed letter from OLC." There was an attachment
that is named, "Your reference and file number.jpg". Seemed fishy.
Making sure that my virus protection was up to date, I...

[email protected]
I've researched the sight for as much info as I can gather for
transponders. The choice now is, which transponder to buy. The
Becker or the Microair? Is one really better than the other? There
is not a real difference in the price point. Is there enough
differencer betwwen warranty, service...

how much for auto-tow gear? by
Johan Larson
So far, all of my glider launches have been by aero-tow. I would like to
broaden my experience a bit, and try some sort of ground launch. I'm trying
to interest my club here in San Francisco in trying auto-towing one
weekend. How much should we expect to spend on the gear? It basically comes...

Two very fun students by
Bill Daniels
This week I had the pleasure to fly with a couple of freshly minted 2nd
Lt.'s from the US Air Force Academy class of 2006. They were converting
their glider time from the USAFA soaring program to civilian CFIG's.
To say this young lady and gentleman are "good sticks" would be an
understatement. ...

Soaring in "western" Canada? by
André Somers
Hi,
I'm planning a trip to Canada for may and/or june this year. I plan to visit
roughly the region west and North of Edmonton, say between Yellowknife and
Vancouver :-)
Does anyone know if there are any soaring operations that would give me an
opportunity to fly there? Is there a thing like a map...

AOPA by
Chris OCallaghan
Casey,
The AOPA is a mixed blessing for glider pilots. It is by far the best
aviation advocacy group (perhaps in the world), and they appear to
provide beneficial services to individual members. But they advocate
selectively. And glider pilots are so far down the list, it would be
easier to...

Pawnee front seal leak by
Andy[_1_]
Both Pawnees at the local glider club suffer from leaking front
crankshaft oil seals. One has had several oil seal changes and the
problem is not cured, the other started leaking within a few hundred
hours of a major overhaul. One is in original fixed prop
configuration and the other was...

A Talking Airspeed Indicator by
Soartech
Last year I was looking for such a device to allow me to montitor my speed more easily on approach so I didn't have to glance at the panel during this critical stage of flight. I found this affordable, small box that plumbs into your pitot line and runs on 12V. It is made in England. I only turn it...

Portable TABS coming to the USA? by
son_of_flubber
Is portable TABS (non 2020 compliant ADS-B-out) coming to the USA in 2020?
This unit looks a lot like portable TABS.
https://uavionix.com/products/skyecho/
It also implements FLARM, and I think that would need to be disabled in the USA. The price point looks right.
