World Distance Award by
Duane Eisenbeiss
The WDA was started in Jan, 1992. It got off to a slow start and then
became rather dormant for a number of reasons. In an effort to revitalize
this worthwhile cross-country soaring program an article was prepared for
SOARING magazine (see Sept, 2004 issue) and the SSA has finally listed...

World Juniors? by
Frank Whiteley
Anyone have today's (18th) task or an update? www.worldgliding2005.com
DNS is hosed up at the moment. They were trying to get a more robust
server enabled, but looks like the route announcements are troubled for
now.
TIA,
Frank Whiteley

John Roake
I am in the middle of preparing the world membership report for the March
IGC meeting.
All but three countries have furnished their returns, and repeated emails to
the IGC delegates for Poland, Belgium and Austria are ignoring my request
for membership figures for their countries.
Can anyone help...

World Record Glider Tow! by
Robs-Birds
Thought this might be of interest forwarded from another forum.
Rob
On November 9, 2004 a team started at Porta Westfalica in Germany for a
World-record flight, by which a glider will be towed over 11.900 km from
Porta Westfalica in Germany to Naua Naua lodge in Namibia in Africa. On this

World Record? by
Rabid enthusiast
Our club recently did a gliding promotion in support of the "Big Day
Up" national gliding day in New Zealand.
We managed to do 155 "trial" flights with 4 twins & 2 180hp towplanes
in a little over 10.5 hours.
That included one hour wih only one tow plane as the other "broke" and
we had to organise...

World Records by
Nick Gilbert
Can anyone think of a reason why there are separate mens & womens world
records? The ease of 'relief' is the only disadvantage I can think of for
women.
I'm not saying that I think there shouldn't be!
Nick.

World soaring contest logger requirements by
Paul Remde
Hi,
I received a question from a customer today that I couldn't answer. He is
going to fly in the World Gliding Contest in Argentina soon and couldn't
figure out whether or not his Cambridge GPS-NAV would be acceptable to the
contest - since it is no longer approved for world records.
I can't...

World's Funniest OLC comments? by
[email protected]
Not since Pez D. Spencer have I found much in the way of humor in the gliding world. I am willing to bet there is some good content in the OLC database, whether it be the result of mild hypoxia or genuine comedic talent, let's hear about it! (yeah, it's winter in the Northern Hemisphere)

World-Wide Soaring Turnpoint Exchange by
John Leibacher
Unfortunately, there are some issues with the primary site (soaringweb.org, and
the mirror sites soaring.geichhorn.com, soaring.guenther-eichhorn.com,
and soaring.gahsys.com), so their content may not be up-to-date, with a
restoration of service probably not before the end of August ;-(
However,...

Worlds Biggest, Fastest Glider by
Walt Connelly
I am sitting at a Denny's in Titusville, Florida waiting to go to the visitors center at the space center with a friend who has tickets to the big show. Gonna watch the Space Shuttle take off up close and personal. The ultimate glider if you will....and hell....even if you won't.

Worlds first? by
nimbusgb
Do we have a unique situation?
My daughter, much to her dads delight, has decided to take up gliding.
Last weekend we signed her up as a member. She has also brought along
another teenage girl who will sign up this weekend. At first I thought
having two teenage girls at once in a single club might...

Worldwide glider fleet by

Has anyone any idea what the worldwide glider fleet
is.
I vaguely recall someone having a stab at it some time
ago but does anyone have the numbers by country.
Even by continent would be a start.
