Duo Discus Rides in 2017 ? by [email protected]
Is anyone interested in selling Duo Discus rides next year at various stops along the competition circuit as KS and others have done over the years - either for the benefit of the US Team, SSA Juniors, another cause, or perhaps themselves? One can never sell too many Duo Discus rides (preferably...

Anti-theft device/ELT-lite etc? by [email protected]
Posted elsewhere, having seen a thread on stolen avionics, I just saw an advert on TV for a device that could be useful to detect impending theft, and/or act as a sort of locator beacon, etc. (designed for tracking kids, pets, whatever and texting to your mobile phone when it moves where it...

spot by [email protected]
After I hit tracks (foot mark) my spot just flashes red, with no tracks being sent. Fresh batteries, clear view of the sky, turning it on and off again make no difference. Has anyone experienced this? Any way to wake it up, or is it busted and just get a new one? Thanks John Cochrane

cool pictures by [email protected]
I want to make pictures like this! http://www.businessinsider.com.au/scientists-why-helicopters-are-so-loud-2014-2 They would be useful for glider airflow studies, and you're staring at a thermal detector, shear detector, whatever. John Cochrane

Tracker by [email protected]
One of the more interesting uses of the new ssa sailplane tracker is getting to follow some of our fellow pilot's adventures when they drive around and forget to turn the spot off. Someone went from Mifflin to get a glider out of Baltimore today, and some how got in and out of the port in about...

Low Altitude Troubles by [email protected]
An email correspondent asked me to explain why low-altitude thermaling is apparently so dangerous. After all, he (and I) have never unintentionally spun at high altitude, so why is it so bad to thermal down low? He suggested the answer might be of more general interest so here it is. --- It's...

Ximango - fuel selection problem by Colin Hamilton
Thanks to all who replied either in ras or by email. No 'mechanical or electrical' intervention happened before this problem manifested itself, so I think we're left with looking at a fuel line blockage somewhere that results in such a degree of negative pressure that fuel is still drawn from the...
