FAR Question by
Chuck
First off, I am an A&P, but not a pilot.
I have a relative that has a glider and needs to put "wing wheels" on his
glider. He said that they want some pretty decent money for them.
I have a friend that is an excellent machinist and I was thinking of getting
them together and see if he can make...

41 Headed West by

Some of you remember Walter Cawby, he was an active contest flier for years and a retired airline captain. Walter gave up flying gliders a few years back and still flew his beloved Baron.
Walter was always interested in sailplanes, competed all over the country and his wife Kay was a;ways a big...

USA-Region 5 North, Bermuda High by
rlovinggood
Glenn Holden is doing the scoring at the Sports Class and World Class
race going on right now at Bermuda High in South Carolina, and he's
getting the scores posted in what must be record time. He usually has
the scores posted between 1630 hrs and 1830 hrs on THE SAME DAY as the
race! No waiting...

Waypoint/turnpoint files by
[email protected]
Is there any rationality to the numbering of waypoints in files?
Looking at some from the Turnpoint Exchange, I can't find any real
order. If there's not a reason for a waypoint to be a specific
number, I can shuffle and renumber at will, right??

winpilot assigned area task by
[email protected]
I am new to using winpilot. I like the software but the documentation
is a little weak. Setting up an assigned area task it asks for min
distance and max distance . Would the answers be the radius of the
turnpoint. e.g. 10 mile radius equals 10 mile minimum, and 10 mile
maximum.
Is there a winpilot...

Ka8 Fuselage Structure by
ef_pete1554
Hi all,
Back in 1996 Schleicher issued a mandatory inspection requirement for the
metal structiure of the Ka8 fuselage. I have recently obtained a Ka8 which
unfortunately doesn't have log book. I am assured that all the inspections
and mods were carried out (the glider wwas previously owned by a...

GPS accuracy by
[email protected]
This question is motivated by the recent discussion about deriving
polars from flight logs.
We know that GPS fixes have some amount of (absolute) error. What is
their accuracy relative to each other? In other words, when I'm
analyzing flight logs, how accurately can I calculate something like
sink...

SSA Membership by
Bill Staley
I read on the website that last year the SSA folks in Hobbs hand
stuffed 10,000 mailers that were sent to potential members. And, that
the results were less that satisfactory to them. This seems to me to
me a very significant effort by a very small number of already
overworked people.
We all...

Suicides with CFIG on board by
Mark James Boyd
Someone asked me about "uncooperative passengers."
As I learned it, if it's a temporary thing
(student during spin training holding the yoke
back in terror) then hand over his mouth and pinch his
nose. You'll get an uncontrolled release as he
reaches up.
For more determined "uncooperativeness,"...

WX Block, NU Finish, Rain-X by
TomnKeyLargo
I have a 2 year old fiberglass top Cobra trailer. When new, I applied WX block,
and used NU finish every 6 months. Half the year it is under cover. Needless
to say the top is weather worn, and the factory gloss is no longer. This
weathering has happen within these 2 years. I believe, since what I...
